Upgraded bushings for the stock SS shifter?

Does anyone make upgraded bushings for the stock SS shifter?

I like the look/throw of the stock in my 2010 SS, but when I really shift it hard, sometimes it feels like it's in gear when it really isn't. I'm pretty sure I'm crushing the rubber bushings. If anyone knows of anything that I can't find, please let me know.

The shifter it's self is junk. Best to upgrade with the mgw.

Well, thanks for the useless reply. Now I remember why I haven't posted here in forever.

As I stated, I LIKE the stock shifter, it just needs tighter bushings...I'm just curious if anyone makes them...if you don't know, don't reply.

I don't think there are bushings but the Hurst shifter allows you to retain the factory shifter and look.

Cool, I'll have to see if anyone around has one I can drive. I thought the MGW felt like a pile of crap, maybe the Hurst is better. Thank you.

The Hurst shifter took a bit to get used to compared to stock. It is a lot stiffer but very positive transmission feel. So you know for sure it is in gear compared to stock. Shift throw feels about half to me.

Yeah, I guess I'll have to drive one...not sure I'll like cutting the throw in half. I really like the stock throw when just driving around...only when I'm drag racing do I find I shift too hard for the bushings. Thanks for the info.

Give this a read.... I did this mod a few years back, worked really well and totally changed the feel of the stock shifter.

Mike -

You should try the Barton shifter in my car. Love it, firm but not notchy like b&m in my vette, and the adjustable height is pretty cool

This is where most of the sloppiness is in the stock shifter, it is in the rear shifter mount. The bushing on the shifter arm is pretty much solid, a hard plastic. The stock piece is on top, the piece I made is installed.

Very nice piece. How is the noise/vibration compared to the OEM?

It is not much increased. The stock lever has vibration dampening built into it as well, and we left the front two small rubber bushings also (where it mounts to the trans). We are going to make a few with poly bushings where mine has delrin anyway. I've driven cars with MGWs, and this is within 90% of the improvement. The NVH would be worse with an aftermarket shift lever, which is why we are going to make a few with poly bushings. I have an OEM Hurst.

I love the hurst I installed a few weeks back also, kept the stock look. Much more positive feel, shorter throws and feels directly connected to the transmission now. I like the idea of upgrading the bushings on the transmission housing also but don't want to hear the noise by switching over to the solid bushings
