Did not know 2118 Camaro's are out yet, do they have a hyper drive and can fly? , what about the flux capacitor for time travel?

I can think of a few good reasons one would opt for a 6th gen SS over a 5th gen ZL1.
1) A lot of people feel uneasy buying a high performance supercharged car out of warranty. 2) If you plan to actually drive the car, ZL1 depreciation and fuel costs can be a real $#@!. High mileage ZL1's don't go for much. 3) They don't see the extra tq/hp gain as a feature they value over modern 6th gen features. As a disclaimer, i love the 5th gen ZL1. I've been wanting one since they were released. These are a few factors that led me to buy the 6th gen SS 1LE after selling my 5th gen SS 1LE. I really miss my 5th gen 1LE. The driving experience of the 6th gen is undeniably better as far as performance. However, i prefer the 5th gen in every other way. They made so many compromises to improve performance on the 6th gen....i don't even have a place to put my cell phone. Last edited by Turbo_J89; 04-24-2018 at 08:15 AM. |

2) you've actually got this backwards. A ZL1 has already seen significant depreciation and will hold value better over a SS. If you spend $35k today, the SS will be worth less than a ZL1 in five years. Yes, the LSA guzzles gas. 3) true some won't see the power as a feature. But curious what modern features? A heated steering wheel & cooled seats?

I still remember the day that I purchased my 5gen ss. The dealership had a black 2015 5.0, a 2016 yellow camaro ss and my 15 black droptop camaro ss. All under 20k miles and within $1k price range difference from each other. I test drove both camaros and left the 5.0 alone. The 16 is more refined and felt much faster than the droptop camaro but what got me to purchase the gen5 was the oldschool feel, looks and it wasn't direct injected. The 2014 and 2015 don't have the third brake light on top of the trunk so that was also a plus. The 2016 is just a sports car with a pushrod engine, handles great, better acceleration and it felt short to provide me the muscle car feel which I was for. They are both great cars but it depends what you are looking for in a car. The gen5 ZL1 is a great car but one can do things to the regular camaro ss to equal or better the performance. Plus the insurance cost it's a lot less in a regular camaro ss than the ZL1 camaro.

Considering I just purchased my '15 CPO ZL1 for less than the cost of a CPO '17, I agree with the initial question. I saw zero reason to even consider a '17 or '16 when the cost of the certified used ZL1 I ended up with was so low.
