Does the Z really stand a chance of success?

All indications are that the GT500 is the Z/28's target, and given the fact that the GT500 is much improved over last year, what chance has the Z got at being a success?

To overcome the Shelby in a straight line, it would need to be lighter than an SS and/or have a more powerful engine than the CTS-V!

To overcome the Shelby in cornering, it would need to be smaller and lighter, which is not possible with Zeta, or have very advanced Porsche-level suspension and braking to hide the weight disadvantage.

Any of these changes would put the Z over $60K just to compete with the $50K GT500.

I just think targeting the GT500 was a mistake, and a set up for failure. Maybe they tried too hard to make the Zeta full-size platform something it could never be. We'll see how it plays out.

I will be the most amazed if GM can pull it off. It's an engineering and accounting challenge.

his lack of faith really disturbs you? Personally, I would just ignore it rather than let it affect me.

There is more than 1 way to skin a snake

The CTS-V is about as good a proxy for the Z28 as we can expect. As far as we know, the Z28 will get the same engine, same suspension, and same brakes as the CTS-V. However, the Z28 should weigh less than the CTS-V, have meatier tires, and possibly a bit more power. In otherwords, better performance all around than the CTS-V, which is already a good match for the GT500.

In a straight line, the CTS-V is neck and neck with the GT500, despite an extra 400+ lbs and about the same power. It is as fast or faster in the slalom but seems to have a bit less overall cornering grip. Braking, GT500 the GT500 would have an advantage on paper, but in the real world, the CTS-V's brakes are considered superior.

Z/28 > GT500 > SRT8.

I don't see the problem.
