Supercharger on a high mileage 2SS
Hello Fam,
This is my first post. I have a 93k miles 2011 2SS L99. Since it is kind of high in miles, would it be able to handle a supercharger? I'm looking at Magnuson SC or a Whipple 2.9L. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. So far I have SW LT headers, Vararam CAI, Cat delete/resonator delete, 2-step. |

No, it would only be ok on a high mile 1SS not 2SS :P

Lamao, thanks for the reassurance! Was a bit worried if the High mileage would affect my plans of Supercharging the beast...

Motors
To everyone who wants to make horsepower.
If you’re worried about breaking a motor just stay stock Or make a cam change. If you can’t put a shortblock under the hood don’t buy a supercharger. Your 100,000 mike reliablity is gone . Accept it. There is no magic bullet. Maintenance and tuning helps but the thing is a machine. It doesn’t last forever . Have fun it and run it as hard as it will go l. When it breaks . Fix it . If you are under stress with that . Don’t push it. Get a cam, make a little power and be happy. |

Thank you for the feedback, I was inbetween SC or a cam. I guess I will do a cam for now. If my motor fails, I'll install a 427 to gain serious power. Thanks again, truly appreciate your honest feedback!

Most important is the leak down and do not go crazy with boost, IMO. |

One should always stay conservative . . . .
Dude, put a supercharger on that thing and have some fun. If the engine eventually breaks, then move the supercharger over to a new one.

I agree with post above. Put the blower on the car and put it on low boost and save in the mean time tell you have the $ for a new motor/trans...

You can be preemptive, Do an oil analysis, do a compression and leak down test. If it passes those three test you can be confident in boosting it. Install a fresh set of valve springs. Fuel system upgrade is an absolute must. Then you can add a JRE supercharger/Tune Package and gain 150 RWHP with factory like reliability. Feel free to give me a call to discuss your options. Ted.

MMMMM 427 ....
When I put a supercharger on mine I talked to a shop. Pretty good shop.
I made a few comments. 1. In a few years they will have factory Camaros with a similar engine package to what I was doing. Their response- it would cost well over 100K from the factory to do it. Never happen. Along came the ZL1. 2. If I could get the car with a 427 from the factory then I wouldn’t be putting a SC on it, right now. Agree, as usual. I have changed my mind about that twice. Final answer-427! Yes if you don’t mind swapping that SC over to another motor then it’s a no lose endevor. I agree with others in that regard. Yes, test the motor as prescribed. If it passes, you can put anything on it. You can also put anything on it if it doesn’t. One thing is for sure. Brother. When it won’t pass one of those tests, you will know it. It’s stressful when you’re “worried” something will fail. When I hear that question, I know that’s the case. It just depends on your “tolerance for risk”. Like investing. I don’t sell the things. However, I wish everyone would buy one. Just be honest about what you want and what you’re going to be happy with in a year. Even engines built by the best engine shops break. Not as easily though. |

Thank you so much for everyone! I’m very humble and I truly appreciate all of your responses... This is my first Chevrolet and I’m planning on staying with the Camaro family for a long time... Im finally able to kick a lot of asses compared to the Charger Daytonna I had before...
I will definitely do those 3 tests before I put a SC or a cam... Plus I will upgrade the valve springs and the fuel system... If I blow/break the L99, I’ll happily move to 427.... That looks to be a great plan for me... |

I put a Magnuson on my 2010 early on and have 70K mile now, no issues. If you mod there's no guaranties but that's what we accept when we mod. Just depends on if you can afford it if something were to happen. I have no regrets and would do it again.

I have over 200,000 miles on my Monte Carlo, and at 175,000 I installed a remote mount paxton supercharger...
If it's your only car, maybe don't modify it like crazy. If it's not, then have fun!
