K&N Typhoon CAI

Is there anyone running one? I see the dyno graph on their website but my god they are expensive for the said gain of 19.67 hp and 10.85 Ft-lbs.

A few years ago just after I purchased my Z I talked to an individual who claimed to work for K&N. He said it was very difficult to improve on the Z/28 CAI and that it was one of the best in the business. Plus it looks pretty damn good.

I also have the Typhoon on my Camaro, not sure what I gained with it because it was one of the "first" mods I ever did, before the LT's and dyno tune. I would also agree about the Z28 CAI, lots of guys have been able to find one and switch to it and be happy with the gains they got. For whatever reason, it has shown on here to be a pretty good flowing setup. Not the prettiest, but gets the job done very well!

Thanks for the info, I just found a good "deal" on a BNIB one. Just didn't know if its worth the money.

Pretty sure K&N developed the OEM Z/28 cold air intake...

They did, however, stock isn't a oiled filter like the kit. I would presume you would get some benefit from an aluminum elbow rather than the stock rubber one, just a guess though.

i don't think its worth it over the Z/28 CAI. The Z/28's is already pretty good.

I like that Carbon Fiber. I'd be curious on weight savings as well. Their website says it's 10 pounds. I'm not sure what stock weighs. Looks like it has the front air scoop like stock, which is nice. I'd be curious if the stock filter can fit on it or if it has to be that oiled one. I'm a little concerned with the CCV port and how it replaces the little sump the stock has. Don't know why they wouldn't have kept that. Wondering if it would be needing another catch can for that now.

All in all, if you got a great deal on it, I'd say try it out.

All K&N filters do, is allow more dirt and debris into the engine.
No thanks.......

I also like the carbon with this intake, I don't think you can use the stock filter as they are different clamps it looks like. They still have the port for the ccv so I'm not worried about that. I would say maybe not performance wise its the right choice over stock but IMO it looks much better than the rubber tube.

Well since they designed the Z/28 air intake, I can't imagine they would make another one that sucks in dirt and debris?

I see they have the port for the CCV. I haven't ever measured how much oil gets trapped in the stock little sump before. So was just curious as I wouldn't want oil going back into the throttle body and such. But I doubt it is a lot. And I really like the tubing, I've tried searching for just that part before. Wish they would make it as a standalone or something to purchase

For sure, well I'll think more about it. I am running a MM catch can so oil in the intake "should never" happen but who knows. Thanks for all the feedback.
