Ford sucks
I know that’s no surprise on this forum, but I’m at work and my 2016 Ford pos exploader with 15k miles is dead. This is different than the one I wrote about before as I retired from the city and am working part time at two small borough departments. The back up ford garbage exploader is a 2011 with 82k so I took that. It just died. I called the other borough I work at to see if their mechanic was in and both of their Taurus cars are down. My god who do I have to kill to get a Tahoe so I have a police car that actually works???

No one liked them. We had Impalas in the city but the county all jumped on the Charger when they came out but their reliability was terrible so everyone switched to ford, including the city this year as we couldn’t get the impala anymore.

The Charger Pursuit may be the most cramped, unreliable POS that ever had a light bar and push bumper strapped to it.
Explorer seems to be a close second.

Caprice PPV was crampt according to the officers that tried it out when I was working at a local city. The chargers sucks, but were cheap, so budgets could replace them more frequently. Ford's were and always have been garbage. As a technician for 10 years Ford's were always good for business ;-)

That's funny because the crown vic is one of the only cars departments are willing to rebuild. That hasn't happened since the 9C1. Also, the crown vic P71 did .9 G's on stock 225 width all seasons.
Almost all new vehicles are trash, if you are seeing an abnormal amount of issues I believe the issue is your mechanic. You know the automotive market has gone to shit when you resort to buying an SS camaro to commute because everything else looks the same and is unreliable.

Crown Vic’s had issues as well, mainly transmission and brakes. The 4.6L was garbage. We’d replace motors because the rest of the car was still good.
The 94-96 Caprice with the LT-1 was awesome!!!! |

We had Impalas from 2007 or 2008 until the Taurus for 2017. The small departments I work for now only have ford’s. Either Taurus or Explorer.
The biggest issues with the Impala was weak front brakes and they overheated if sitting too long. That’s why police cars need to be specific like fire trucks, not converted passenger cars. Small grills help fuel economy on the highway, but don’t move enough air when sitting in the summer. |
