#PI1359 - Pop or Clunk Noise in Rear of Vehicle - (Nov 18, 2014)
Subject:Pop or Clunk Noise in Rear of VehicleModels:2014-2015 Chevrolet CamaroBuilt Between May 5, 2014 and September 26, 2014 Attention: This PI also applies to any of the above models that may be Export vehicles. Condition/Concern Some customers may comment on a popping or clunking noise in the rear of the vehicle upon braking or acceleration. This condition may be caused by the upper control arm ball joint in the rear knuckle being loose. Recommendation/Instructions If this condition exists, follow the procedure below. Camaro Knuckle Pry Bar 1. With the vehicle on hoist, apply light pressure using a pry bar or equivalent to the rear of the upper link relative to knuckle to confirm the ball joint is loose. Note: When applying pressure, be sure to not damage the knuckle seal. 2. If any movement above 1 mm (0.04 in) occurs from the rear knuckle ball joint, replace the affected rear knuckle. Refer to Knuckle Replacement in SI. 3. If there is no movement, continue with diagnosis. Refer to Noise Diagnosis Rear Suspension in SI.
