yes grind them but you will need screws and washers to put panel back in.
Step 13 below.

Ended up grinding them off. Painted them and I'll be putting them back in a little later or maybe in the morning. Do I really need washers or will only screws be fine?

Use a razor blade, it cuts right through and leaves no mess.

That depends on the size of the screw head.

Put them back on this morning. Went with some 1/2" screws and washers, couldn't find 8mm. Worked fine. Got a picture and I tried a panoramic pic, picture didn't come out the best.

Why couldn't we just melt new plastic to hold them in like the factory did?

anyone have any luck getting these from GMparts direct, or at least prices? When I search for any of the trim part numbers I get a "not found" message for all of them. I'd like to paint my own and already have ambient lighting. Want to keep stock panels for future use.

You can get from classic industries, from GM you will have to buy the whole door panel

Model or part number? When I go to the site I can only choose up the year 2002.

They were under $400 in my catalog. so not sure if the online price is higher, or if they went up almost $200

Going to try this:

Hey, I just ordered the material and going to try this myself. how much overlap on the side , should I do it the way the cloth was or should I cut it at the edge. Any special things I should know to make it easier? Thanks, my car is also Victory red!

I have a victory red 1ss, and I found that the color "American beauty" vinyl from my local upholstery shop matched up perfectly.

all I did was pop out the dash inserts, remove the old cloth from the trim, used it as a template, and glued the vinyl on using 3m foamlock adhesive (also available from your local upholstery shop) then re-installed. same thing with the door panels. the whole cost was 23.95 for the material, and 11 dollars for the adhesive. I will post pics and answer any questions you guys have about the process. it was REALLY easy.

sorry about the poor quality of photos. the color really DOES match perfectly, the flash and camera angles is doing strange things with the color.

let me make a small change. use DAP weldwood adhesive instead of 3m, as it has a better heat resistance. also, don't forget to remove ALL contaminants from the plastic panel or they will show through and drive you nuts.

Thanks for the link. Dang, steep price. Anyway, can anyone confirm that the factory door lighting will fit these inserts? My understanding is that it is the same panel just a matter of if the LED tube is there and wired (Mine is - need it to be able to fit these).
