Exclamation Spied: Camaro ZL1 Track Package / High Performance Package In Testing?!

Featured on Camaro5 HOMEPAGE.

The 2012 Camaro ZL1 is not yet released to market (expected Spring 2012), but it appears that a Track Package or High Performance Package is already being tested for the ZL1!

The biggest telltale sign is the prototype's more aggressive hood cowl, featuring an actual induction scoop/inlet. The regular Camaro ZL1 cowl features only heat extractors, but no air intake/inlet for extra cooling and air induction.

This prototype also features Sparco race seats and a rollcage, which could be installed for testing purposes only, but nevertheless could be potential components in some ZL1 track pack option.

Don't mind the door decal, as these types of decals have been spotted on previous ZL1 prototypes, and are used as camouflage and to deceive.

Stay tuned for more info as we get it!

So now I have to wait for this to be announced if it isn’t available when they open 2012 ordering? This is what I was worried about – the 2013 model comes out and it has something I really want that improves the performance but I already have the 2012. Just when I thought I was getting close to ordering a ZL1….

AH!!!! I CALLED IT LIKE MONTHS AGO!!!

And - that's SO killer!!! I just got chills! I wonder what tires we'll find?... Maybe some Sport Cups a la ZR1/Z06?...

How could you hide this from me, Tran? You know how obsessed I am

The vent confuses me... Will it still be effective at adding downforce? I know there's a scoop inside that would catch some air, but would this new forward-facing scoop at counter productively?... And - count me in on some hood pins!!! I'll take that black Bow Tie, too

Here are some tire photographs I'm drooling over. The first is the F1 G:2 we already know is coming on ZL1. The second is the Sport Cup tire found on ZR1. It's not a very clear picture, but either the shoulder's pretty bald or I think it's a strong suggestion they might be getting some seriously sticky tires!

Those wheels look different...like 10 spokes - there seems to be more airflow through the wheel...lighter weight than the ZL1 wheels? Perhaps THIS is the BOSS 302 competitor (WON'T SAY THE Z-WORD)?

Spoiler looks different...and those look like functional brake coolers on the back fenders....hmm.

These are MOST interesting posts!!! If I were excited before, the thought of the "other" Z-word makes me even more!

Maybe it's just the angle and camo' that seem like the wheels and spoiler look a little different. I'll be honest when I first saw the tires that they looked shorter... Not like the 28-inch tall tires I'm used to seeing. However, your last comment about the quarter vents interests me the most... Could it be that I will have to eat my words about functional rear brake ducts?... I will gladly eat some words and take one for the team if that could be a reality I maintain that I don't think it will happen, lol.

I think these are just the SSX wheels which are expected to be standard wheels on the ZL1, the polished wheels are rumored to be an option.

You mean the taped over section? If that's what you mean I don't know - it is probably some data acquisition instrument like the ones taped all over the rest of the car. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love rear brake cooling ducts but to me this seems like an add on for testing.
