So, my first stupid question, what exactly is the Dyno and what is it for really? I see alot about it here on the forum, but is it something that you would do just to see if everything is where it should be for your cars performance, or is it something you only would do if you were planning on racing or running at a track?

Ok, again I apologize for my ignorance in this regard...

Second, if I do decide to try to come out and get a Dyno done on mine, would you want appointments of any kind, or just show up and wait, while looking around? Also, about how long does it take to do two pulls on the Dyno?

Thanks for the info....

Dyno is short for dynomometer, and it's an instrument that measures torque and horsepower. For already-built cars, it would consist of rollers inside the ground that the car pushes with its drive wheels, and a computer measures the power that the car is applying. As to why you would do it, well most of us like to see the horsepower gain of any modifications we make, so doing a baseline run and then after-mods run will tell you that. It's also pretty fun to watch and then have a printout of how much power your car is making.

2 pulls would probably take about 10 minutes, depending on how quickly they strap the car down.

Are you guys putting together a list/schedule for the dyno runs or is it just show up and wait your turn?

My wife has already started calling my Camaro "the new girlfriend" since I've spent more time with it on the weekends than I have with her. I don't really want to show up at 11am for a dyno run and be there all afternoon waiting my turn. That'll just reinforce the name my wife gave my car.

I'll probably bring her and the kids along. It's taken me 16 years but she's finally a car person and we're both working on the kids.
