Stage 3 Cam or 3.91 Gears first?

Hey guys Im thinking about getting a stage 3 cam from Texas Speed and the 3.91 gears for my 2012 1SS manual 6 but one of my coworkers recommend that I get the gears first but I really love the way a cammed car sounds, so far my car has Stainless Work long tubes, Dynomax 3 inch catback and a CIA by Araid the car has been tuned by Jannetty Racing.

I did cam first then 7 years later did the gears. The cam sounds awesome like tou said. But the gears made it soo much more fun. I believe id do 391’s first if i had to only pick ine this year and other the next

Cam...

You'll thank me later.

Nothing like revving to 6,800 and not running out of power up top while running 11's on a street tire with traction control on leaving at idle.

I still cut flat 1.7 60 ft's in the hot humid summer heat with A6 and Continental DWS 09 all season tires.

I'd do the cam. You can get the best of both worlds with a cam vs. gears. With the cam you get more power and a nice lope where gears you only get more go.

Clutch and gear should be the first two mods to these cars. You can make it to mid 11s on a stock cam. Everyone loves shoving a cam in a heavy car with no gear and wonder why they under perform. Good luck OP and supporting mods are key to a successful cam car.

I only have enough to do one of the mods now the other will have to wait until sometime next year.

3.91 gears first. If you are N/a I'd do 4.10's. A geared fbo camaro will beat a cammed camaro all day long. The gearing in these cars a HORRIBLE. a cam makes the low end where the car needs the most help even worse.

Agreed. And, BooneSS13, look at your number of posts!

Anyway, OP, look at the long run and how each mod affects how your car will run. Doing the cam without the gears= You're going to lose your get-up-and-go, as stock the manual cars are 3.45. Whereas, if you do the gears first, then you will already be set up for success when you do the cam.

Thinking on gears also. Sure get more bottom end tq. Like equal to 50 lb ft. I have a stage 1 custom cam with good power and tq so this should be nice.

Does anyone make a 4.33 or 4.56 gear set for these rearends?? I'm not finding anything... I have 3.91, not sure 4.11 will be enough difference...
