This along with the driveline "slop" noise is very annoying. But I will say, if I am driving it "normally" in the city, it more than annoying. I wish GM would listen, do research into this, and come up with a solution.

I have a 2014 1LE and think I might be having the same issue from 1-2 and maybe 3-4.

Could the transmission and shifting of the 1LE be giving people trouble because the car is designed to be driven on the track? I'm thinking the transmission may not be as smooth as some people are used to because it is designed to handle more torque???
I haven't driven one myself (but I'm close to taking the plunge) but maybe the engineers did not intend for it to shift as smoothly as a street car. Maybe they expected to see some more force and aggressive revving??? Just a thought. |

Well if you are driving on a track you want smooth engagement not a notchy feel. Granted it's a different tranny than in the standard SS and probably built for abuse. but if 2nd is that way on purpose, we want to know about it! Also I've driven the car on the track and I don't seem to "notice" the problem as much then. But it's not often we shift from 1-2 on the track... I also have a difficult time getting the car in reverse unless I use excessive force. Unless I'm not doing it right which is totally possible but highly unlikely.

I just drove home and had a notchy feel in 6th gear too. None of my gears "feels smooth" but 1st and R are the worst in my car, followed by 2nd, 6th, and 4th. 3rd and 5th seem to be the "smoothest".

Usually soon as I take the car out, my first shift from 1st to 2nd is pretty rough. I'm at 1800 miles & changed my tranny & rear diff fluid to redline at 1000 miles. It seems only to happen on that first shift then it's fine afterwards so I'm thinking it's the cold tranny that's doing it.

Known issue with the Tremec trans. Notchy, especially when cold. Search in the transmission forum. This is not specific to the 1LE.
If you have a 2SS or the gauge package, you'll want the trans temp somewhere between 180 degree line and the hashmark to it's left. At least that's what I've noticed in mine over the past 3 years. When the trans is at this temp my shifts are buttery smooth. In spring/summer months this is typically after about 20 minutes of driving. I have the factory Hurst short throw. If you just fire your car up and immediately hammer on it with a fast 1-2 shift, you'll likely get a nibble or crunch going into second. With the unbearable cold weather we've been having, it'll sometimes occur during my first shift to second gear even with low RPM's. Sometimes I skip second gear... I've never gotten a grind when the car and trans were warmed up. Recommend separate clutch reservoir and Redline ATF.

Agree with the above, fluids need to get up to temp for things to work right. Watch racing teams warm things up before a race. There's also a reason why there are so many pace laps in a race, tires, fluids, engines need to get up to temp.
