GL5 question for diff
Ive heard that if the the diff fluid contains GL5 or something like that that you dont have to add the friction additive. Is that right?

Right. But some are still putting it in. GL4 needs the friction modifier.

No. GL5 is the performance rating for gear oil, not the indicator if it contains limited slip additive. Some do, some don't. You need to check the bottle or contact the company.
I have many different brands of GL5 gear oil in my garage, some say contain LS additive such as Royal Purple Max Gear, and others make no mention of it on the label. If it doesn't specifically say it contains it, I'd add it. |
