I believe it shows up in the DIC. "Shift Denied" or something.

A light should illuminate on the gage cluster. On the C6 it says "1 to 4". When it says that I respond with bull shit and give er more gas. You can get right past it. I had the eliminator but it threw the CEL. Ran for 2 years with the light on then got sick of looking at it so I took the eliminator off, reset the system and viola`, no CEL but I do have o deal with the skip shit... I mean shift!

I don't have my Camaro yet but my '02 TA WS6 has skip shift.

You only have to be going 20 mph to go straight to 2nd -- how slow are you guys driving???
This IS a Camaro. And the gas pedal is the one on the right.

What year was your vette? The C5's will throw codes and the CEL will be on if its not connected - or so I've heard. Not first hand knowledge, but it makes sense, and came from what I consider to be reliable sources so I never tried it that way.

Its a $35 part - it wasn't gonna break the bank to buy it and do the job right instead of leaving connectors open under the car. Plus if I take it in for service they cant even tell anything is different. The plug looks like it came from factory.

The DIC shows you a 1 to 4 shift picture.

On the vette and the GTO you can also just go to third - or give it a little more gas.

Class action lawsuit. It might be saving gas but it's ****ing up your engines.

Do they do that to the automatic?

Sorry to ask this but i never seen or had a car with skip shift on it if the manual trans does not allow you to shift from 1,2,3then 4 it is the mosy dubmest thing i ever heard. Why the hell would you get a manual then if you cant slam it into 2nd and punch it. VERY DUMB IDEA.

Seriously...if you don't understand how a car works, just ask. Don't make stupid comments like you know what you are talking about unless you want to be called out for it.

Be ignorant, not stupid.

I think you are more ignorant than stupid...so I will give you a chance. The skip-shift only activates if you are driving it "efficiently". In other words you are not accelerating hard. I skip shift all the time on all of the standards I've owned, from the Honda to the Supra.

Wow, I see that a lot of people don't bother to read a thread before responding.

Summary:

1. Skip Shift is on manual transmission cars only. I believe it is now on the Camaro with a V-8/M6 only and not the V-6 M6. It does not apply to automatic transmissions.

2. It turns on during light load acceleration only. It's not like you are getting a car with a so-called six-speed manual transmission and you can't ever use second and third.

3. All it takes to cancel the lock-out is to give the car a little more gas. Anything above approx. 35% throttle will disengage the lock out gate. Then you can shift normally. You can also defeat the system by shifting very early into second gear, at say, 10 mph. I do not necessarily recommend this, but if you were to be crawling in traffic, it could be done.

4. You can buy a simple plug in that defeats this "feature." I have seen a low of $19.95 and a high of around $35. The little wiring harness is about half the size of a book of matches, looks stock when installed, and folks, it will not void your warranty. No one will know it's there and even Chevy mechanics, if they were to see it, probably either won't care or will applaud your decision. It is also removeable. It will take longer to jack or hoist the car up and let it back down than it will to install it.

5. Chevrolet has been using these for years. Surprised some of you have never heard of it. I've never bought a new GM car, and I think I first read about it...15 years ago...?

6. Don't worry so much about it.
