Question about rebuilding calipers...

I just got these back from a powder coater and I just want to verify something that I am not overly familiar with. These dust boots don't seem like they sit flush and one looks almost like it is coming off... Is this how these dust boots should look? I haven't taken off my stock calipers to compare yet but the rear calipers dust boots sit perfectly flush and don't appear to be pulling away from the caliper itself... anyone have any insight?

Can you post pictures of the other caliper? I don't see a problem with these boots, but like you I have looked at a stock caliper so my point of reference is not very good.

The other powdercoated caliper's boots look the same as this one. I have seen a video on youtube of a zl1 caliper being rebuilt and from what I can see the boots don't appear to stick out like this. The one piston boot in the middle of the pictures I posted can easily be lifted away from the caliper/piston which really tells me something isn't' right. If it pulls away that easily what's going to stop it from doing that when it is on the car?

No, the fit of those dust boots doesn't look right. Did you buy new seals and dust boots to rebuild the calipers after powder coating?

Even though my second set of calipers had never been on a car, I was told to buy new seals and boots and not to reuse the originals.

The first set I purchased were Centric brand from Rock Auto. I ran into major issues with their fit. I ended paying an arm and a leg for seals and boots from RacingBrake.com

They fit like a charm.

Is there not a ridge under the boots for them to seat into? All the calipers I have done have had some type of little ridge for the boot to seat in on both the piston and on the caliper body.

I didn't do the powder coating another company did. They did the rebuilding too and yes those are new boots and seals. The boots seem to fit perfectly on the rears but these front ones seem iffy. I can literally just pull the boot off with almost no effort on some of the pistons.

There is a channel that they fit into but it almost seems like the boot is too big to fit all the way in to it. Does anyone have any pictures of what the fitment should look like on our front calipers?

They should snap down into the caliper similar to the way the seals do.

They do. They just don't fit flush and they don't seem to fit overly tight.

Please keep us updated on your progress. I'm currently waiting on the same company that did yours to get mine done. If you are having issues with the fit and finish of the boots I may hold off on my purchase. I think a guy on the zl1 exclusive FB page had a similar issue. Good luck man I hope you get it resolved quickly.

You have a link to that person having the same issue? The powder coating job looks great, its just these dust boots that have me worried. I may just reuse my stock boots since there is very low milage on them anyway...

I wish I could find a picture of what the stock ones should look like. I don't want to take my caliper off to see that these ones look way different and then I'm stuck.
