Diff Cover Gasket

I will be removing the cover on my differential and have some questions for who have done it. Thanks in advance for the help/advice.

Can you reuse the old gasket?
Do you have to use any RTV in certain areas or just use the gasket?
Torque specs for tightening the bolts?

1. yes providing it does not get f'd up on removal...take your time...be careful on the 2 gap areas...

2. yes...I went ahead and used a clear RTV on both sides...let it take a set and bolted it together...not a single leak...

3. don't have them in front of me...hopefully some else will chime or I can look it up a bit later..good luck!

peace

Thanks Frank!
Did you just put a thin layer of RTV or like a bead of it?

Over the last 60 years I have had a fair number of wonderful rides. During this time I learnt some very valuable lessons when it came to O rings, filters, gaskets and like items. If you don't want to do the job twice then why take a chance reinstalling with the old parts? The gasket is not that expensive. When initially installed the gasket has been compressed when torqued down.

But again, it's your buck.
