Hello,
Bottom line up front: 2013 Camaro SS with HID headlights Need to know the operating voltages for the HID headlights. The kit I have just has 2 wires red and black, that go to the factory harness. I found the plugs they go to but they were hacked up and spliced and useless. More info: I just got this car and someone really hacked it trying to install H13 LED replacement bulbs and LED halo rings in the headlights and DRLs. On the ride home I found that there were no high beams and the low beams were very dim. I took it back to the 'dealer', that is a 2+ hour one way trip depending on Boston traffic. They spliced into the wires and put H13 bulbs into it, called me up and said "it's back to factory". Unfortunately it was a bright and sunny when I picked it up. It had high beams so I was hoping it was fixed. It was not. The low beams are very dim, at least the high beams are almost what I would expect the low beams to be. Trying to install XenonPro bulbs D1S kit and it comes with the red and black wires that go to the factory harness. I checked the plug that it's supposed to connect to and it no longer has any voltage, actually one just came off in my hand. So, where can I tap into the head light power source? What is a low beam voltage? Assuming high beams are 12 volts? Any suggestions? I tried calling XenonPro but they do not have phone support and the live chat was down... |

*edit: no idea why some of the pics are upside down, I even flipped the photo and re-uploaded. Any help would be great!
Hello, I finally have the issue sorted out. Here is the resolution: While it was obvious the headlight assemblies were aftermarket I didn’t realize they are an important part of the HID system. I realized this from pictures showing the OEM headlights that have a ballast on the bottom of the enclosure. Another thing I learned is HIDs don’t have a high beam / low beam in the traditional sense of two bulbs or two filaments. It’s one bulb that mechanically actuates moving the bulb in slightly or out, or some HIDs use a shutter system. The HIDs need compatible headlight assemblies. I also found the harness I needed was spliced and also had an adaptor. I replaced the headlight assemblies with HIDs that came with the bulb and ballasts. I un-spliced all the crappy LED wiring and removed the adaptors. The second photo above (previous post) is actually not the original harness but part of the LED system that went to the DRLs as well. Now it works great and I can see..better still the factory halos work. Way cooler than the LEDs Last edited by maddog_walby; 09-02-2025 at 12:58 PM. Reason: upside down photos? |
