Mustang 5.0

Am I correct saying that the 5.0 doesn't produce more power than the challenger (6.1) and the camaro but that it just runs faster because it weighs less? The playing field will be different when Chevy & Dodge put their engines in lighter cars? Props to ford but Am I correct?

The mus-stank does NOT put out more power than either. They have a very good rear end though.

As the owner of a 2011 Mustang GT, I can tell you the car is much more nimble and lighter feeling than either the Camaro or Challenger. I can also tell you the 5.0 burns a quart of oil a week and the manual transmissions are total garbage... hence Ford buying it back... and me spending a lot of time test diving Camaros and Challengers.

Gearing has a lot to do with it. The 5.0 M6 cars come with 3.73 gears unless they are special ordered with 3.55's. A good friend of mine has a 2011 SS M6 with 4.11 gears and a CAI. I've seen him on several occasions take out M6 and auto 5.0's. I even saw him take out an 07 Roush 427R which is a blown 4.6L. Not bad for the Camaro.

Yep, gears have a lot to do with it. I was talking to my sergeant that has a boss, and he said himself that if his was still stock and mine just with what I have(CAI, long tubes and cat-backs) could beat him if only my final gear was lower...
If I didn't want to lose my 6th gear that I use to drive highway I would change my final gear...
But once I have money to spare, I'll change my transmission, and final gear. Get a 7 speed, change the 4th gear as it's a big gap between the 3rd and 5th, and also change the 6 as of the gap from 5th, and make the 7th my highway gear, but I'll make it smaller, so it will only hit 1k when running 55mph unlike now it hits 1k doing 40mph(making it even more fuel efficient, but that is after I mod the final gear too), and the final gear will probably be 3.55
I have so many plans for this car, just need more money...
Can't wait for my contract to be over, I'll be able to choose between getting a bonus to reenlist for 30k(70% would go for mods and the rest for savings) or get a 100K job being a civilian

Hey JM
Your car may be a lemon but mine is not. My car has used no oil in 8400 miles.

OP..... The 5.0' are very fast.

actually the 5.0 routinely puts out the same or more HP stock to the wheels than the LS3 or 6.1 chally. The engine is most likely underrated + the solid rear axle eats less power. And bolt-ons to boltons the 5.0 i still put my money on the 5.0 producing more power. The LS3 DOES put out more off idle and low range torque though. Theyre all close enough in power to weight that its still a relatively close race but the mustang does have the advantage

The 5.0 puts out power that is equivalent to the Camaro and Challenger (non-392), but it's the lighter weight that really helps the mustang.

You blue oval guys crack me up. Just admit that it is true that the rustang does not have the same power output than the Camaro or Challenger and it is most definitely a weight advantage. Just admit it guys. You guys really think you've got the quickest car out there don't you? Then you guys get really mad and defensive when people tell you different. It's really sad. I guess if it's the only real "sports car" ford has, I would expect it to be defended until the death. Imagine if you will an LS3 SS with the weight of the rustang, shi$, we'd be killing ourselves in these things, especially modded? Forget about it. Please don't bring up the Vettes and their weight with the power they are putting out. Thats a
whole different animal. Yea I'm startin' sumptin.

My car started shaking at over 150mph and then I realized that I was about to break the sound barrier.
