A shop I know told me because the l99 has the vvt & dod a cam swap costs around 2500-3300 dollars. The size of the cam will dictate how dependable it is.

It is the same price for for both LS3 and L99 camswaps as long as you keep the L99 lifters. If you want to replace the lifters then yes, it gets expensive because you need to pull the heads. So you can get a mild to medium cam no problem, if you want a wild cam then the price jumps significantly.

Exactly what type of cam do they wat to install?

Wow.. DOD delete is about $300 bucks at thunder and a VVT cam runs about 650 - 740 with valve springs and phaser. I was quoted less than 1300 installed.

A good bet would be to contact Kirk@VectorMotorSports with your cam durability questions. They have a good thing going with their cam swaps, i absolutely enjoy mine and it's considered a mild streetable cam. I beg to differ she sounds sweet and the performance you get for the cost is well worth it. My specs are in my sig. Here's a link to a nice cam idea http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73140

Installation is less if you keep DOD.
To the OP, how much power do you want to make and how much are you willing to spend?

many more parts needed to get rid of the vvt , witch is also what i did . ls3 timing cover and gaskets , mild cam and lifters , 3 bolt cam gear , valley tray , new head bolts and all the gaskets , lifter trays . thats all i can think of for now . so yes it sounds like but you get what you want and fits your needs , i got what i wanted and a procharger this winter . hope every thing works out for all of our needs .. have fun dyno video
