Shop is charging $400 to weld on mufflers on 2011 V6.

I bought some magnaflow mufflers and exhaust tips, and the shop quoted me $100 an hour. That's a little higher than the average for the area, but not by much.

I'm sitting in the waiting room now. They have been working on it for 5 hours. Pictures of current progress is below.

What they are saying the issue they ran into was that the mufflers were much bigger and they have to make a bracket and aligning the angles were hard work. Apparently the "gap"of the black brackets leaving the resonator are different and cause alignment issues.

According to them It's going to be around a 6 hour job but they are giving me a deal and charging only for four hours.

I already got into a "discussion" about it, but don't want to push it cuz they still are working on my car. Of course I did my research and found that this should be only a 1.5hr max job.

Idk what I'm looking for from you guys, I already have the feeling that I'm being ripped off, but that feeling is turning to me just believing they did things the hard way and I'm paying for that. Is this really that complex, I know some members here installed the same mufflers for much less.

Looks like you're being hosed to me. Especially by any shop that uses pipe clamps like that for anything more than a paperweight.

You’re definitely getting ripped off. Something like that should cost $200 at most.

Yeah, NO. This is crazy.

Cost me 30 each buck to get my quad tips welded on.

Yep, this is why I went with a kit that's tried and true and bolts up. More for the part, but much easier to install it.

6 hours for 2 mufflers and 2 tail pipes is pathetic.

You've been scammed and that is a terrible job. Shoulda just gotten an actual a/b kit. If I were still doing exhaust fab work, that would have cost at most 150 bucks and about an hr to 2. So sorry man.....

My 2010 SS aftermarket mufflers were CLAMPED on 9 years ago.
Cost $100.00 for one hour labor. There still fine after all this time.
