ReRoute of Heater hoses w/ pics
Well I finally decided to reroute my heater hoses. I mean how great a design is to have hot coolant hoses laying on your intake manifold and an engine cover thats insulated over top of the hoses retaining serious heat, transfering said heat into the intake manifold is definetly not good for power. I did take the insulation off the underside of the cover but felt that was not enough. Also it looks like crap if you take off your engine cover.
So I decided to figure a way to do this and I was going to get some 90 degree brass fittings and universal hose, put 2 90`s back by the firewall and put 2 at the frame rail to send the hose back to the t stat housing. Instead after talking to Sack Rat 2SS he found 5/8 hoses at autozone that had 90`s on one end premolded into them. These are perfect for the job. I used the 90`s at the firewall and routed the hoses behind the heatshield and under the ABS perch then back to the t stat housing. This worked great w/ a little trimming. I also cut a section of the factory hose insulation (not pictured took pic before installing it) and secured it w/ zip ties in the back as the edge of the hose touched the edge of the rear coil pack. Probably would be fine but I just wanted to be sure it wouldn`t rub through. I used screw type clamps and lets just say it is a pita to get the factory squeeze style clamps off the heater core in the back, not to mention getting the hoses that are what felt like glued to the outlets off was an amazingly hard task for something so simple. I beleive like the ford truck comercial holding the entire truck up by one bed bolt i could have hung by the heater hose w/ no clamp and it would have never came off..Lol.. I did remove the rear coil pack for access. Also of note is one of the outlets is 3/4 at the firewall but w/ a little lube the 5/8 hose will slide over it. the screw clamps i used on the rear connections at the core were installed w/ a small 1/4 drive ratchet w/ a 8 mm socket. At the time I also installed a 160 t stat since I was going to lose coolant anyway. Here are the pics:

Nice job,it never made sense to me why GM sandwiched those heater hoses between the intake and engine cover.

Camaro1,
The hoses came from autozone and were part number 4106. They cost me 12 bucks each, plus 4 clamps. 2SSRS, Hey no problem on the eye to eye thing, everybody can`t always be right...Lol.. Not to mention I don`t take it personally everybody has an opinion, and if you are right on the intake I`ll be the first to admit it, but like I said, I want to see same day, same dyno, sae corrected numbers. Give me that and 30rwhp peak no tuning, and I will sing the praises my brother... I do try to do things slow and deliberate and make things aestheticly pleasing as well as functional (performance enhancing) vice tearing the car up just to make it faster. Been there, done that, older now, and a little wiser... Rex, Thanks

Looks so much better. The hose part number you gave is for a 5/8 inch hose. BTW, did you find a 3/4 inch hose fitting at the water pump just like the one at the firewall? Glad it worked out for you.

No problem guys, glad Sack Rat and I could help.
Lube works great.. I guess if you have the right tool for those compression clamps they come off fine. A pair of pliers is very hard to use back there...:(.. So where do you buy said compression clamp puller?
