Should I consider a 2016 Z06?

I have been checking for a non Z07 package Z06 A8 and found a stripped A8 Black for 80K. Sticker is 85k. The only other options it has are peformance data recorder and black wheels. Worth a switch?

If tracking it a lot, there have been concerns with over heating into limp mode especially the A8's without cooling upgrades. However, it would be a great more daily-like driver. You in the NE would have less issues than me in Texas. They are a low 11-second (or quicker) stock in good air, which would be a lot of fun. Heck, guys ran mid-10's at MIR last week in mineshaft air (-1350 to -1100' DA).

I'm still window shopping between a Z28, waiting for the next ZL1, a Z06 (M7, A8, non or Z07...unsure), or CTS-V. Leaning, for this milli-second, towards a 16 CTS-V as my wife prefers that and we have two teenage boys. I already have a 580hp M6 GTO street car and a street / strip Firebird drag car. The Z28 would be the MUCH better track car than the CTS-V, but, practical, if you can call the V that, comes more in mind to it clearly than the Z28.

On the Vette, you can always add the Stage 2 or Stage 3 aero bits, change to good tires, and brake pads, etc., and have a darn nice road racer to play with. One other note, there are lots of even better deals on leftover 15's if you want to go that route.

I'd leave the C7 Z06's alone until they get that heat soak issue sorted out.

Stay away... Haha

Mine has 3900-miles on it. I rarely drive it because I am so depressed about it overheating every time I do a spirited run. The lt4 is a piece of crap. $112k paper weight.

Which is why I have two LS7 in my garage. Actually on my second '15 z28. Sold the red one and got a white one.

Damn, all that money in cars and can't afford a broom to sweep the leaves out if you garage.

Haha nice collection!

I honestly don't know what I would do Stephen. I've had 6 Vettes and have always considered myself a Vette guy, more than any other car. But I seriously don't know if I would buy a C7 Z06, especially over a 2011 or 2012 ZR1.

I've seen the low 80k price. I would do it. You only live once. I'd want that hideous WDF look-at-me martian lime neon green.

FYI, unless it has Z07 package (and it doesn't) it will not have the same PTM, ABS, magna ride tune. If tracking is in the cards, this fact would eat up my mind, and hence I'd not buy it

Was thinking the same thing and said no, C7 Z06 are not set to run out of the box, lots of bad PR and the LT4 will be getting a upgrade IMO in the next 18 months or less.

LT4 seems to be faring much better on the CTS-V, so it might actually be the car's own design issue. No wonder, the new Camaro SS looks to be having a very nice opening for coolers. Looking forward to seeing how it will fare with the new Camaro ZL1(?).

Cooling issues are still an issue on the 2016 Z06 so I will wait for the 640ish HP version of the Camaro.

Cooling issues are few and far between, it's like the ZL1 guys saying the LS7 is going to blow up. Such bad information on this thread. Many of the issues were in cars that were not track prepped as in the owners manual. Sure there have been some issues, if scared buy a 700 bigger rad and call it.a day. I've owned a ZL1, Z28 and now Z06 and can tell you it is an amazing car. You do not need the Z07 to track the car.

I really wish you were right

Here is hoping GM fixes the issues during the next update. I've also owned 5 Corvettes, 3 of them Z06 models, and would love to get one
