intersting, i would have though to be a mechanical which most likely still is, however fluids can make some difference specially if they dont have the correct balance of friction mods in them.

After 4x test drives with a tech riding along and 1x time dropping it off at night and leaving it all day they are going to FINALLY look inside! Can't wait for monday! The tech was able to hear the grind 5x in a row while he was driving this time.

I actually have a similar problem but with 3rd gear. Happens sporadically, usually when driving a little aggressive. It has only happened in 3rd.

Not everyone on the list has taken the Poll.

So far:
  • 25 people are reporting a Grind
  • 15 people are reporting a Bind

Mine would grind most often ont he 1-2 shift, but also on the 2-3, as well as the 3-2.

BTW, really enjoying this '08 Impala while I wait for GM to send my dealer a clutch...

When you guys claim the "grind", is this every time you shift, or periodically, like monthly, or every time you take the RPM's up high?

I'm just surprised I'm seeing (or perceiving) consistent grinding on cars with thousands of miles and not more you have parked it at the dealer for a resolution.

Let me know--

For me (since my car was new, now have 1800 miles on it):
  • The "grind" or "crunch" happens every time I make an aggressive 1/2 shift at 7000 rpm
  • The more I take an aggressive 1/2 shift below red line, the less pronounced it becomes
  • Aggressive 1/2 shifts at 6000 rpm, it lessens
  • Aggressive 1/2 shifts at 5000 rpm, it's gone
  • If I make a NON Aggressive 1/2 shift at 7000 (pause a fraction of a second) it doesn't do it
