What was on YouTube was 2 1LE's one with the V6 and one with the V8, and the ZL1=, they have not built the Z/28 car IMO, there will be a smaller CI hi revving motor for that IMO.

1LE lightening lap on VIR was 158.30. Z/28 was ~ 1:50:90. I know...different drivers, different days, etc. Regardless, I can't see the 2017 1LE getting anywhere near Z/28 territory. As someone above said, most likely closer to ZL1.

When i had a Boss 302 everyone said the 2015 Mustang GT w/ track pack would obliterate it. That didn't happen. I bet the 2017 1LE will be 2-3 seconds faster than the previous gen 1LE at best.

Edit: This is from the Chevrolet 1LE webpage “The result delivers better performance in all measures,” said Oppenheiser. “In our development tests, the V-6 Camaro 1LE delivers lap times comparable with the previous-gen V-8 model. The 2016 Camaro SS 1LE sets the new benchmark for the segment, lapping the Big Willow track at Willow Springs three seconds faster than the standard Camaro SS.” If the V6 version is only as fast as the gen 5 1LE, there is NO way the V8 will be anywhere near Z/28 territory. In fact, it states above that V8 1LE is only 3 seconds faster than the SS.

You can bet, if the 1LE was as fast or anywhere near the Z/28, that would've been a HUGE selling point to potential buyers and that would have been the first thing mentioned when they introduced it.

The Z28 is still the king until another Z comes along.

King of camaros, yes. But until that happens, 350R is your winner.

There is some truth there.

You need to reread the quote... the V6 1LE laps are comparable to a V8 gen5, not a V8 1LE.

"The result delivers better performance in all measures," said Oppenheiser. "In our development tests, the V-6 Camaro 1LE delivers lap times comparable with the previous-gen V-8 model."

The "3 seconds faster" is referenced against the 2016 SS, which is a dead heat in most measures to the 2015 1LE. I think the 2017 1LE will put up times close to the Z28. GM seems confident the 1LE is faster than the GT350 but not the GT350r. Will be fun to watch.

How awesome would it be for GM to destroke an LT1 or LS motor and build a 302 cubic inch screamer to attack the Mustang?

We'll see... good times for GM.

The only way the GM V8 makes the power that it does NA is by using a lot of displacement. Just look what the 5.3 or 4.8 LS based engines make for comparison. They're not going to rev like a DOHC or have the broad power band variable cam timing gives you. The big torque the GM engines make is also dependent on that big displacement.

Apparently, you have not seen what some have done with modified 4.8 or 5.3 liters spinning to 8 or 9k.

True, But you will probably never see one driving around the streets let alone a race track. They will all be sitting gathering dust in someones " collection"
