noises in my engine!
Hey everyone, for the last month I have been getting some weird noises. also, I just want to clarify that I have opened my valve covers, I will open up my heads either this weekend or next to go deeper into this. Pushrods are slightly bent, and I have two rockers that have been flattened out as if the pushrod was banging on it hard. one on the rear rocker of the passenger side, and one on the 3 rocker of the drivers side.
Noise #1: At idle there is this chirpy noise that is not coming from the belts, but from inside under the manifold area. it is rpm dependent, and speeds up with the rpms. Noise #2: there is also a light knocking noise. same thing, it is rpm dependent. Noise #3: When I go over 5000 rpm, there is a constant rattling noise like something opening and closing, through pressure or air.. idk. It is also rpm dependent. but this one sounds like one bad move and its going to slip and fly all over my engine. please help my friends. and if video needed for these noises. I can do. |

mechanical damage is no good in any motor
did you over rev and/or float a valve? Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk

RPM dependant chirping could be the cam lobes, if you already have bent push rods, and flattened rockers. Are any of the springs broken? Sometimes you really have to look closely, as even a broken one can be turned just right that it still performs, and can be overlooked.

if it was me, i would now even turn the motor anymore (unless by hand) and i would definitely tear down the top and start there
if you have bent pushrods on a stock ls3, most likely what happened was lifter pump up which cause the valve to stay open when the lifter was on the base of the cam which likely cause the piston to touch the valve if ur lucky, all you need is a new valvetrain and ur good to go Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk

what likely happened is that since the stock springs arent designed for high rpm, they may have failed to close the valve properly and allowed the hydraulic design of the lifters to compensate (pump up) in order to stay on the cam lobe and that extra .100 prevented the valve from seating/closing (valve float) and caused the piston(s) and valve(s) to exchange information

This car has a cam upgrade on it, it has dual springs, but for some reason pushrods and rockers are stock. I dont know why this person would do that. But yea, i am opening the engine up next weekend when i get time, and going to see what other damage has been done. Car runs perfectly fine besides these noises, so high hopes damage isnt horrible.
