1LE Captain. The Sub level control knob does look very nice and clean, how did you have it mounted underneath, what size drill bit did you use? You have inspired me to do the same now, I think I am going with the: JL Audio ZR650-CSi for the fronts and the if the mounts work I will go with the JL Audio C5-570x in the rear. Just curious why did you go with a 6.5 in the rear and not a 6x9? I have the same sub box with a 12W7, like you I am and have been a JL fan for 20+ years. Thanks again for the right up, and very nice install, hopefully when I complete mine it can be as nice with out breaking anything!

The sub level know is mounted just like a toggle switch would be. it comes with washer and nuts, you remove the knob, install the level control from underneath, install the washer and nut on top, replace knob. I forget which drill, it's in the instructions supplied with the JL knob.

The 6x9's are really inferior compared to a 6.5 with a system that has a sub. The sub supplies the bass, the interior speaker supply midrange and highs. The 6x9s vs the 650's are 53-22K Hz vs 48-25k Hz.

The C3-650's are better in that regard plus the can handle the 75 watts RMS that my amp supplies, the JL 6x9's only go to 70 watts.

I am a big fan of JL Audio gear, over the years it has never failed to perform for me.

Although I do like to use double sided tape, you cannot use it here. You have to drill a hole and install like an old fashioned toggle switch.

1LE or whoever can help, 1 question. I have the same amp as you, my sub is the 4 ohm version of yours (JL 12W1v3-4 Sub). How should I wire my sub?

The 12w1v3-4 is a single voice coil sub that should be matched with a 4 ohm amp. If yo uhave the 700/5 amp then it would be best to run the 12w1v3-2 with it.

The v3-4 has a single voice coil, there is only one way to hook it up, pos and neg. If you had a 4 ohm sub with dual voice coils you could wire in series to get the sub to run with the 2 ohms. Since the sub you have is 4 ohms the sub will see only 180 watts RMS you throw at it a 4 ohms from a 700/5.

My opinion, hook it up see if it works for you, if not sell the sub and get the 2 ohm version.

Good stuff 1LE. I've subscribed so I don't lose the thread. JL makes some good equipment, probably what I'm going to soon. The BA speakers just aren't doing it for me, post amp replacement.

Good write up. I may have some questions for you soon as I'm doing a very similar setup. I just completed the rattletrap in rear, put speakers in Adapters and about to wire them to amp. Think i need to add some double sided tape first before i screw the adapters down.
