The V8 Camaro will always be King!
Since joining this site a week ago I have been very surprised to find a "debate" going on about a V6 being as good as a V8.
There is no question you can build out a V6 and make some serious horsepower and even beat V8's with it. But when it comes to a Camaro the V8 will always be King. That is what muscle cars are all about, at least in my old school thinking. A V6 is not even supposed to be part of the conversation so it is remarkable to me in this day and age that it is. I am going to boil it down to one of the big things that matters to me, the exhaust. The RS I bought my son will never have the exhaust sound that a V8 has, and that made me wish I had gotten him the V8. Everything about the car is great and it is perfect for him to cruise around, but it just will never have that sound. My 94 Z28 with the cats cut off and flowmaster exhaust was amazing, the 98SS I had did not even need the cats cut off to sound incredible with a flowmaster. The next door neighbor has a brand new Mustang GT and every time that gets fired up you just hear that sweet sound of muscle. A V6 will always come up short in that department. |

At least we don't have to debate things like this with 4 cylinder owners!
Poor Camaro6

This is going to be entertaining, coming from a V6 owner none the less. OP, your a good dude for calling things the way they are. I’m sure your ride is just as cool as you are and I mean that. 99% of the V6 guys here have my respect as fellow camaro owners. I’ve got nothing against v6 cars or their owners.... except for the two irritating wannabes that seem to keep talking crap and making false statements then playing the victim when the facts are displayed before them.

Another V6 vs. V8 thread:
This will likely get ugly before the moderators step in, but I do have to agree that there's nothing like the sound and performance of a V8. Like the OP said, V8 will have more power easier and after modifications a V8 will gain more per mod simply because there's more cylinders, displacement, and typically V8 engines are built more stout for aftermarket modifications. However, modern day V6 engines aren't anything to laugh at. They may not have quite as much torque as a V8 running the same horsepower, but they are quite impressive. I mean, 300+ hp and 30+ mpg and it will beat most every "muscle car era" muscle car from the 60's in every aspect of performance.

Not sure which car is king around here but the debate certainly is!

Edit: Kidding aside, you’re absolutely correct...
Nothing sounds like a hopped up ‘Merican SBC!! BTW, the Coyote engine, although powerful indeed, sounds like crap! Here’s my old skool |

enjoyed the sound of my big block pontiac with headers and duals for 25 years.unfortunately between that, tank gunnery, and loud music for 45 years im left with a bad case of tinninitus.my ears ring constantly from the minute i get out of bed til i fall asleep at night.a nice quiet 6 cylinder is fine with me,and it doesnt alert every cop with 2 miles every time i give it the gas.
