Question torn between the ZL1 or 1LE

i like both of them the zl1 is a power house and the 1le is the one im really leaning towards. im so confused lol i was told i could just put forced induction on the 1le and make it as the same power as the Z. not to mention the zl1 is around 15K more than the SS, what do you guys think???

Still a lot of other differences between them. I love the 1LE too but that's because of a $20g difference in price here.
The new C7 is what I would be looking at when you're talking that kind of money, not taking anything away from the ZL1 because its quite the car in it's own rights.

It all comes down to what you want. Sure, you can add a supercharger and some other goodies and make the same power as a ZL1, but there is so much more to it than HP. The drivetrain of the ZL1 is beefier and built to handle the power. The mag ride is completely different than the stock 1LE suspension, plus you get all of the PTM modes. So, while $15K sounds like a bit of a premium, you'll spend way more trying to get the same ride and performance out of an 1LE and still potentially have problems down the road. Don't get me wrong, the 1LE is a badass Camaro built for performance. It's just different performance than a ZL1.

I had an SS (not a 1LE) and I debated adding a S/C and other upgrades, but at the end of the day it wasn't a ZL1. To me, there is more to the car than the sum of its parts (and power).

unless I absolutely had to have four seats I'm getting a vette for that kind of money. 30 years from now the ZL1 may have some sort of collectability factor that a standard vette does not but I don't purchase a new care predicated on what the market may be in the future. Crap, that wasn't the question, (I got distracted by Rob's comment and I'm easily distracted) If the question is solely based upon the financial factor only you can answer that question. If it is based on which is likely to provide you with more fun on the road I'd guess it would be the supercharged beast.

Sure you can add a supercharger to a 1LE or an SS but it will never have the reliability of a ZL1. With the ZL1 you would have a car that is still under warranty, and although the 1LE is a very capable car, the ZL1 comes with more handling technology. IMO if your budget allows it, go for the ZL1.

Yes, you can supercharge a 1LE. But the ZL1 comes with a WARRANTY. It is nearly a supercar right out of the factory and it's covered for 100,000 miles. Factor that in when you weigh your options - in order to make your own ZL1 knockoff, it's at your own risk. If you want to keep your warranty on your 1LE, you can't make it much more powerful than stock because anything requiring a tune will void everything. Even simple things like headers will void your warranty because a tune is required to delete the Check Engine Light, and if you're in a state with state inspection like I am, that takes headers off the table. I can't do anything beyond intake and a catback really because I want to keep my warranty, and that's far from ZL1 performance.

It all comes down to what you want to spend. If money isn't an object, I'd take the ZL1 100 times out of 100. Money is an object for me, so that's why I drive an SS. But let's not kid ourselves - the ZL1 is superior to an SS/1LE in nearly every way. The 1LE may be the best NA Camaro ever made, but it's no ZL1 and never will be.

I think all GM cars have a 5yr 100,000 powertrain warranty, the hard part is keeping your self from modding out the warranty.

the only advantage of the ZL1 over the 1LE is really the warranty.... but a properly done supercharged 1LE will last just as long and be just as reliable as a ZL1... + 1LE is cheaper, lighter, and if you are wanting a 2014 model both of them have the same ugly rear end (ugly in my opinion). If you are going for a car you plan to track then definitely the 1LE, if however you are going for a touring car, plan to go on long drives or daily drives and keep it stock aside from maybe visual mods, and basic bolt ons, then get the ZL1. But for autocross, circuit, drag, the 1LE has more potential (mainly the big weight difference).

Go with your gut its never wrong. If its the ZL1 and financially you can afford it that's what i advise you to pick. There both amazing but if you find you settled it will nag at you then we will most likely see a post 6 months later about you upgrading to the ZL1.
