Factory sub package
I was on Facebook just now and noticed GM's Camaro page posted about accessories at www.gmaccessories.com It mentioned the subs in the post and its listing showed them as being available Q2 2009. Is this true are they available now? I didn't think they were. Also if so has anyone purchased them and seen how they hook them up? It lists them for $1,000 plus install and I know I can build a better setup for much less as I've done it before but I don't want to cut up the wiring if I don't have to.

Here is The GM subwoofer installed in my car. Sounds great I had to turn it down to 1/2 its so powerfull. Takes up no space in the trunk and wire harness needed is included with subwoofer as well as wiring instructions. I had dealer install so full warranty.

By my observation, it appears to take up some trunk space and also eliminates the pass-thru function.

Is there an amp sealed as part of the box? Where does the wiring harness tap into? I wonder if the harness is available separately. I really need some "thump" but I really cant gut the feeling of hacking up the car yet for modifications!!

If I supplied the Factory Sub, does the dealership just charge an installation fee? I guess I'll talk to the Parts department at the dealership.
I've been interested in the sub box since the accessories list came out, and would have added it as an option if it was available when I ordered my car.

It takes up very lttle trunk space at all but it does eliminate the pass through. Which I personally have no intention of ever using. There is a gain control knob located in the back of the unit which is reachable by dropping the seat. Yes there is a 200 watt amp inside and it wires to the existing harnes in the trunk and all wiring instructions are included.

When the factory sub is hooked up does it cut the low base to the other speakers? That would be the idea thing and let the subs handle the low end.

I'm interested in buying it from gmpartsdirect, but I'm worried about the cold in shipment / condensation.
I stopped at my dealership today. They wanted $1122 installed. So I asked if I supplied it how much installation was, they said like $75. So I'm gonna buy it, depending on how easy installation is, I'm either going to install or i'll have them do it.

I guess that my question is how does the amp hook up? I know that there are plenty of people on here that have an aftermarket system but all of them have had to splice in wires or "tap" off existing wires because there is no direct hook up. Is there some sort of special harness for the GM box so that I don't have to hack a unit in there? |

Interesting... I'd be interested in getting this harness, and tapping into the harness that just plugs in rather than tapping into the wires in the trunk... I wonder if you can buy just the harness...
