Thank you for your service - what exactly is illegal in the eyes of CA? they do not do the probes anymore, only plug in to check for codes. They do a visual, but Im sure you could find a place in National City or surrounding area that would be willing to accept your money and pass you. all you need to do is ask. Check with someone on base, Im sure its happened many times in the past.

Get ahold of Cunningham Motorsports (Murrietta or Temecula?) and see if they can help. They do a ton of quality LS HP work, and maybe they can help steer you in the right direction. I have no idea how modded your car is, so my advice is limited, though I did live there, on active duty, for much of the 90's.

My advice would be to find a "mod friendly" smog shop and get it smogged so you are good to go when you roll out of this state. I'm sure one ticket with expired plates would more then cover the cost of getting it smogged here.

You can post in the local chapter of California that you are looking for a mod friendly smog place and many many people will chime in/help and some will pm you with some more info.
