Spoiler Problems

I noticed small pieces of rubber coming out from under left rear of spoiler, I went to dealer to have it checked out, the rubber washers under spoiler were completly deteriorated, causing spoiler to rub on trunk lid and remove paint on trunk lid along trailing edge of spoiler. This damage could not be seen untill spoiler was removed. The dealer installed new washers and 3m tape temporarly. Am waiting to see what GM is going to do about the damaged paint. Will keep you posted. Again word of caution "damage could not be seen until spoiler was removed"

My theory is that the original recall last fall, (locktite (blue or red ) was applied. due to loose spoiler nuts which is due to no or poor locktite application to the bolt threads causes movement due to driving and therefore wear and tear on the rubberwashers which eventually causes paint scraping which will eventually cause rust.....all because of bad nuts!!
GM better recall all spoilers and check this out thouroughly if my theory is correct.
The first spoiler recall was just to check if my nuts were still on (and one was missing) which I finally got out last week
The recall should have included a thorough check
and now we all should thoroughly check it out!

Hey Harvey... Here's a thread that discusses this issue. I fixed it myself.

Tune installed but only gave me 3hp more than my superchip tune. Tuner advised that I might as well stay will the Super Chip tune as there was not enough difference to make it worthwhile.Tune gave me 351 rwhp, Super Chip 349 rwhp.

Yea Rick, though mine was ok till the rubber started to come out, then it was to late paint was already f-----. I remember at Centropolis we checked them all and mine seemed ok. The trouble is no way to see damage without removing the damn spoiler

Yeah, I know what you mean..... It was that thread that alerted me, and when I checked, I could clearly see there was an issue.... I went to Reno-Depot , and bought 12 pcs of 1/16" RUBBER washers to replace those crappy foam pieces.... I'll be taking the spoiler off during the hibernation period, as the sheet metal was stretched/over torqued when I went in for the spoiler TSB.... I want to make sure there's no rust after this cruise season.

I'm having it done at Chevrolet Ile Perrot. The service manager already opened the case file for me, we'll see how quick he is to call me
