I see an electric supercharger on the Camaro5 homepage. Is this thing for real? In theory I could see it pushing more air into the intake, which is a good thing right? But... the web page that it's advertised on looks cheesy. I did a search here but came up with nothing. Comments and opinions are appreciated.

There have been some successful attempts at electric superchargers, but most that you see today are not going to work. Think about this...it takes power to make power. A supercharger works by using the accessory belt. Well, that puts a drain on the engine. To run the electric supercharger you have to run it off a battery. Those things weight a lot (one disadvantage) and to give significant power they drain quickly. The only electric superchargers I've seen with verifiable 1/4 mile results only lasted for a few runs between charging. And they were expensive. You would be better off getting a NO2 kit -- less weight and more runs at the track.

I think if all it take is a 50 bucks electric fan to push air into your intake to make power than maybe every major turbo fabricators just might go out of business or switch their name to "electric" lol. This is nothing but a scam. There's no way a 12volt electric fan is going to push all that cfm of air into your intake. Maybe in a unrestricted enviroment but not in your engine compartment into your intake. It wont happen!

I can see getting out of the car in the staging lanes and having to use a pull-cord to fire them up.
