Moisture in trunk

I found moisture in the trunk under the carpet, it seems that the drivers side trunk vent (behind the carpet wall) allows water to enter when driving in rainy conditions. Now my carpet padding stinks!

Hopeful resolution, I removed the trunk vent and applied a bead (length wise) of silicone to the outside surface to both rubber flaps. This adds weight (not too much) to the flaps, and hopefully resolves the moisture and fine dust that enters into the trunk.

Those vent are to allow air to escape from the vehicle like when you shut the doors with the windows closed. It is highly unlikely that is where you are getting water from. You really should let the dealer look at it for the water leak.

Well the the moisture; hell water is still coming inside the trunk. Not sure where the problem is located.

Have them check the weatherstripping on the bottom of the rear windshield. There are many coming mis-installed, which is allowing water to flow down the rear windshield and into the area surrounding the trunk. Really, it should get into the trunk from there, as the lid is shut and the stripping around the opening forms a seal with the lid, but I would still have them check it.

Just my $0.02, as someone who has an issue with his weatherstripping (and is in a long line of those waiting for GM to release a replacement part to the dealerships.)

Get in the trunk with a flash lite, and have someone shut the lid and run water from a hose down over the car to see where the water is coming from. I had a car that the rear window leaked and caused this.
