No camaros @ Carlisle in 2011
(I posted this in another forum but thought it might be seen better here.)
It was just announced last night that the American Camaro Assoc. (ACA) and the Maryland Camaro Club (MCC), who have been running the show for camaros at Carlisle for the last 6 years, have decided that they will not be participating in the GM Nationals in 2011. Instead, they will host the Camaro Nationals on June 23-25, 2011 at the Frederick Fairgrounds in Frederick, MD. For more information, click here: http://nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=198547 |

That freakin sucks! What the hell! Why do they have to mess with something that works so well.

What a shame. Big mistake on their part if you ask me.

There have been some issues and problems in the past between the clubs and Carlisle Events and the clubs decided to pull out. They will keep almost everything the same this coming year other than the location: the same classes, the same judges, camping facilities, a host hotel (Holiday Inn), swap meet and vendors and Frederick, MD has more attractions than Carlisle. I look forward to the change, even tho its about a 1/2 hour longer drive for me. I know the president and some members of MCC and some members of the ACA personally and am confident they will do a fantastic job at the Camaro Nationals. Don't fret, things will be fine.

That seriously blows. We are planning from 10-20 5th gens from our club to be at Carlisle next June. Now I have to run this past the other members to see what they want to do. I would rather do Carlisle. Any other interest out there?

You will still be able to go to Carlisle and enter...it just will not have extra club backing. The GM Nationals have been shrinking the last few years.

Funny how they made it the same weekend as Carlisle
I still plan on attending Carlisle as I have for years

The GM Nationals at Carlisle started as Camaros at Carlisle put on by the ACA. When Carlisle realized just how much the event was drawing, they built the GM Nationals around the Camaro Nationals. Suffice it to say, Carlisle management has become more and more difficult over the years to deal with - hence the ACA taking the Camaro Nationals elsewhere. We had over 700 cars last year and the rest of the GM Nationals was maybe 300 cars.
Since people were already planning to go to the Camaro Nationals the third weekend in June, why would we change the date just because the venue has changed? |

The Camaro Nationals has been held the weekend after Father's Day for years. No need to change that since folks are already planning for that date. A lot of folks who travel long distances can't afford to come to two shows. They will have a decision to make, that's all.....

Sorry you feel that way, Jim. You've always had your car judged at the Nationals - and walked away with awards if I remember correctly.....
