I'm thinking someone in the CA regional Forum might be of help to you. You can ask again there or I can move the thread there for you.

As of Jan this year, there is no sniffer test. The tech will plug into the OBD II port and check the system for failing codes.

Where you are wanting to stay NA, I'd call Ryne @ CMS or shoot him a PM on here. He can spec out a cam for the parts you currently have on your car and give you a very close estimate as to where you will be when everything is said and done. It would be a drive to get the tune done, but well worth it in my opinion.

He did a FI cam for me and I couldn't be happier. Before the blower I was right @ 460rwhp, after the blower, I picked up almost 200rwhp more. He did a NA version for SPCBA and his auto put down the same power as my manual.

So with me living in the peoples republic of CA....what's a good smog legal cam? I know almost an oxymoron... but I have to be able to pass smog.
The cam has nothing at all to do with what is smog legal. All it does is TRY to pump air more efficiently. Your intake, headers, and to a lesser extent.. catback, take care of the rest. Every cam is smog legal.

Don't rush into this bud. I would take it slower if I were you. The cam is where you will start running into problems if you haven't done your research.

apparently you're not aware of this little thing called "cam overlap"

Hehe... more like I apparently don't understand what they check for in a smog test. I was under the impression that once the factory cats were gone, you weren't going to pass regardless of cam.

Thanks for the cleanup Ryne. I don't want to misinform people.

well yes, but even if you have factory cats or otherwise you can still fail emissions with an aftermarket camshaft if the specs of the cam arent correct for emissions compliance .... on the overlap cycle of the motor you will essentially just pass raw unburned fuel right out the intake valve and right out the exhaust valve, so essentially the car will fail due do to high HC's. Factory cats will do one hell of a job to clean a lot of that up, especially if you get them really hot before testing, but there is a limit to how much they can clean up... my generally rule of thumb is keep the the overlap at .050" at a max of 0 degress, and under...

Yikes. You guys can't get away with much of anything out there.

I could have sworn this thread was in a different section. There's no way I would have been in the regional Cali forum. Obviously I don't belong here either!
