1LE Track Day oil temp.
What oil temps are you getting when at a track day / HPDE in youe 1LE's?
I just did a ride along in a Z28 and it seemed high to me(290 degrees). |

I think that oil temp is a weak link in the Camaros, including the 1LE. 290 is too high, 300 is dangerous. I was running 290 after only 3 laps on a cool day with my modded engine. I replaced the 1LE's tiny oil cooler with two air to oil coolers to the left and right of the radiator, along with custom shrouding. Now it runs very cool even on a hot day, and coolant too.
I don't know what Chevy was thinking on oil temps, the Z06 is even worse.

I don't think my car has a built in oil-temp gauge. It does have water temp luckily but that's about it. One of my few gripes about the 1SS package with no center cluster.

My oil temps shoot right up to 270/280 in just a few laps but it stabilizes and doesn't go any higher. I put a few track days on the oil with these temps and sent it in for oil analysis. It came back fine with no damage to the oil, breakdown or excessive oxidation.

Mine are not ever above 280.....not even after back to back to back 20 minute sessions.......but Laguna Seca is usually below 70 degrees though.
one side note though, I change it before each event weekend..............maybe that helps. |
