Locking the car
When locking the car with the key fob, pressing it once locks it and pressing it again honks the horn. I have always thought that the first press simply locks the car with no alarm and the second press activates the alarm. I discovered the other day that is incorrect as I had to manually unlock the car door and the alarm went off. I know for a fact that I had only pressed the keyfob lock button once.
So what's the deal? What's the point of the second press honking the horn? It has to have some significance. |

I turned off the horn honk personally. I think it was there just as a "hey I'm already locked" thing

Isn't the 2nd lock/horn let you know that the doors are all locked? 1st click is to lock the doors, 2nd click horn 1 beep = all doors locked, 2 beeps = some doors are unlock. At least that's how more cars are anyway.

people click it twice so they hear the honk to let the know it's locked for sure. hitting it once locks all the doors and sets the alarm. i think it's a piece of mind kind of thing.
i also changed the setting so that one click of the unlock button unlocks both doors, instead of having to click it twice to unlock both.

my gmc is the same way and the times it is handy is when I can't see the truck, I listen for the horn to know it's locked.

I dont have to press it twice to open both doors just with one press both doors open. and to lock it if one door was left slightly open the car will not honk even if you press the lock button a million times. So i guess the first time pressing the lock button is to lock and set the alarm and the second to make sure all doors are properly closed, therefore the honk sounds as a "everything ok" signal.

Hitting it twice sets the alarm, look for the red light on top of the dash. If the light is flashing the alarm is set, one click doesn't make the light flash.

I send my son out to lock the car in the evenings and he'll push the lock button all the way back into the house, horn honking each time. I hate that. At least he's thorough.

IF there is any question, go out to YOUR car, and go into the personalized settings, you have multipul settings to taylor the settings as YOU like them. so not everyones is going act the same.

I may be wrong but I could swear I read some where that the first press of the lock button locks the car but has like a 30 second delay or something before the alarm turns on and two presses of the lock button turns the alarm immediately.
