V8 Questions

A couple of quick questions that I have been pondering:

1) How much HP/TQ can safely be put down through this engine, rear end, and the 6M trans safely and reliably???

2) Perhaps I may have missed this topic some where, but is there a lot of body roll with the 3,860lb Camaro 6M SS? I want this thing to handle like a dream and be able to run through the twisties very well before an upgraded suspension is added.

I apologize in advance if any of these questions have been already asked and answered.

1. Maximum capacities have not been established. The Tremec trans handles ZR1 and Viper torque, so that shouldn't break. Rear end, not known yet. Maybe GM will chime in. Remember, they designed this car to handle a supercharged 550hp engine, so it should be pretty stout.

2. SS gets FE3 performance suspension. Test drive a Pontiac G8 GT (FE2 suspension), and kick it up a notch. BAM!

the rearend was tested at 750 horse, we dont know if that was RWHP or BHP but that can give you a little to go on.

look to pedders for a great suspension kit for the car. i have spent alot of time lately looking at australian forums at holden commodores (our aussie brother car) and pedders has some amazing stuff for those that will be direct fit into our zeta 2 camaros.

Remember the Tr6060 is application specific. So this transmission is designed for the Camaros weight and torque. The TR-6060 in the Camaro I believe was rated for 450lbft of torque it will actually handle a fair bit more than that. But I wouldn't push it much past 500lbft.

Tell that to the people who put ~500 lbs/ft through their T56 rated for only ~400, reliably.

Manual transmissions are a lot more forgiving to power upgrades, it is the clutch that becomes the weak point.

I only said I wouldn't go more than 10percent above it's rating I never said it couldn't do it. I would however be worried about the longevity of the transmission with more torque than that.

I had a bit more than that going through my T56 for quite some time .. never had any issues ....

I'm curious if they had some hard launches with it, and really sticky tires to test the true strength. To be honest I want in the neighborhood of 515whp. So I'm hoping to get this without rebuilding the transmission.

it will take that no problems kyle, alot of this stuff is over engineered in the knowledge that people are going to do power adders and it hurts thier image if they were to break easily.

I figure something as simple as a lightened driveshaft could also reduce some strain on the drivetrain and allow me to even higher, I could be wrong though.

I wonder how much abuse the manual can take, it seems to me if you drive it hard a manual tears down faster, you guys ever have that problem?

LS3 for Camaro? 422hp or 430hp

I have seen the corvette LS3 at 430hp and the Camaro at 422hp.

Not sure, but normally when the power drops from corvette to camaro, GM explains it as intake/exhaust differences. Many enthusiasts say its because they reduce the power on paper but it really makes just as much.

I spoke to our chevrolet district rep and he said "the stats for the camaraos' power is underrated"
