A fun but disappointing first trip to the track

We clearly have all the power but I could not figure out how to launch (2013 A6 convertible) without spinning. We were running NT05R 305/45/18 at 25 psi and tried several different combinations of 1st and 2nd gear launches, flashing the stall (3600 FTI) and holding the pedal to load it to around 2000 rpm. The methanol injection system stopped working so we were pulling timing with very high IAT2 temps and never managed better than a 12.2/117 mph run. We'll get that fixed.

I need to practice launching but in the meantime we also need to look at suspension upgrades such as poly cradle bushings. What other suggestions do the members here suggest that can help the launch issue? Once we're past the start she drives hard, fast and straight.

I think the converter is hurting you more than helping you.

My car went 11.0 125 with just a JRE 125 upgrade on a drag radial.

no converter no meth injection

Feel free to give me a call an I can help you get your car down the track.

Ted.

I'll be taking my M6 2013 convertible to the drag track for the first time this summer when our club has a race day.

The car is stock except for a Rotofab cai, and I haven't been to a drag track in 40 years.

I'll be tickled to death to run any kind of <13 seconds run. Hopefully it'll be a 'no ET' day where they don't display your ET.

Once I get a run or two in and get it in the 12's where it should be, I'll feel a lot better.

Not trying to break any records, just doing it to have fun.

It currently has MPSS's (315) on the rear.

Tell us about the full combination, and tell us about what the 60' times were like. I assume some sort of boost with you're blasting meth - which should means it should be running 11's easy...

Something seems pretty far off there - should be a 600+whp car doing easy low mid 10s at 130+ on even a lazy 60' time. What were the 60' times like? You mentioned heat was a problem, how bad where the IATs?

700 whp on a conservative tune (we haven't installed the external fuel pump yet). I'll have to gather up the slips and check the 60' times. Every single launch was a spin/lift/straighten and back into the throttle. I wasn't data logging but I know the car and it has a history of high IAT2s when the meth isn't working, even on full E85.

There are countless guys on here running low 600RWHP including myself and none of them are running low 10's..

Pulled my slips. First couple of passes were over 2 seconds as I was just getting used to launching the car. Consistent 1.9s for the rest of the night.

What I said was "Something seems pretty far off there - should be a 600+whp car doing easy low mid 10s at 130+ on even a lazy 60' time." My comment was specific to the OPs car, although I can see how it would be taken as a generalization.
On a blind guess I put the cars output over 600whp - it's actually over 700whp according to the original poster. That kind of power should go mid 10's at 130+. It's all ball-park stuff, relative to a lot of factors. My point was that the car is woefully underperforming at this point, and needs to be carefully looked at. That kind of MPH is below what a stout 500whp car will pull.

I still would posit that 600whp in an SS car should go mid 10's with an appropriate drag setup. I realize a lot of them don't - but that certainly ain't none of them. And that's not a knock on them - a lot of the "fast times" are laid down in great air on perfect prep that a lot of us will never see with our home locations.

Would a 2 step help the launch at all?

Nope, that will help with consistency if want to help bracket race the car. You need to figure out where all your HP went and the only real way to do that is data log. You can see where your timing, IAT2s are relative to your position on the track.

I would also advise against running the car if you are low/out of meth. If you tune is aggressive and depends on it and it runs out it can be a very bad day for your engine.
