I have to really thank you and all the moderators for the leniency in this thread. It is obviously a difficult topic to discuss, not even bringing politics Into the mix.

Thank you for understanding.

Go gun rights.

Go gun rights.

But let's keep it civil.

Intelligent conversations done in a respectful way can be VERY enjoyable.

Let's all try to BE respectful to each other. We know there's always going to be a few. But, let's not punish everyone due to a few. Ok? Help out folks. Please and thank you.

Finally! IFG Tanfoglio Bullseye in 10mm..... BIG pistol! but handles well!

Just for comparison, that's a full size 1911 on bottom

I'd be curious to see the same experiment above done with FMJ ammo, just to show how poor FMJ is for self-defense

To help people understand the gelatin pic:
The yellow line is the permanent wound channel. This is actual physical damage to tissue. Everything between the yellow line and out to the green line is the temporary wound cavity. This is disruption. Think of a jiggling jello mold. When a bullet travels through soft tissue, the "harmonics" cause a temporary disruption of surrounding tissue. Some of this disruption can be permanent in the form of torn blood vessels. The temporary wound cavity can be thought of as the ripple effect.

Based on the picture, the .40 has the best permanent wound cavity. However, just like cars and dynos, different day, different gun and the results might look different.

I have been asked many times what is the best caliber for a pistol? There isn't one. If there were, all the police agencies would be using it. Shot placement is more important than the size of the bullet. Some would say a .500S&W is the ticket. If you are a large person who is comfortable shooting it, that may be the case. Read this:
http://www.policemag.com/channel/pat...8-25-2008.aspx
The bad guy took 17 hits from a .45 ACP before he was stopped. If I recall, the last three were to the head (shot placement!) and that is what stopped him.

A pistol is just to get you by until you can get to a rifle.

Sorry, my paint-fu isn't the best.

That's a good clarification... a solid bullet will also cause secondary trauma, just not as much. Hollow point has definite advantage, but I don't want to be shot with either one.

I've always known 9mm was an effective SD caliber, I was surprised how close it is to the larger calibers.

Slightly off topic, but I am taking some classes to finish my degree and it is centered on a research project and it just happens to be partially about CCW and schools/universities. Based upon recent discussion posts, it amazes how many sheeple are out there. I guess I had forgotten since I don't deal with regular people that often.
