Header tick

I have a slight header tick going on and heard this is normal. I went to my tuner who is an LS motor specialist and said it sounds perfectly fine and not to worry.. let's hear some videos of your cammed/long tube cars!

The tick will usually not come through on video, unless it is really pronounced.

Mine ticks as well. Of course I noticed it more when I installed my longtubes.

Did you use new OE gaskets on the headers? Those seem to work best. The aftermarket gaskets often blow out and sound like a bad lifter.

This happens when you remove the stock cast iron manifolds (thicker) and replace with headers (Long tubes etc. aftermarket) because the headers are way thinner, so you hear the valves opening and closing with the new headers due to the material thickness . Nothing to worry about . Has nothing to do with gaskets etc.

Just re torque the new headers after a day or so when they are warm(not hot) as with any exhaust work.

I been using copper exhaust gasket lube over past year on all connections and I tell ya that stuff is awesome and seals things perfectly. If you have to take apart anything in the future give it a try. I have it on all my cars on every exhaust fitting. Just don't get it on anything like clothes etc. have a pair of jeans I got some on and it's on there for good. You can take the parts apart to later down the road if you need to even years later on parts you put the stuff on. A friend was using it on his intake gaskets on his twin turbo car and showed me the stuff.

I have some tick but its tight and that's the deal when its hot less tick.....so better for nutting up to higher rpm with no float versus looser preload better for no tick...the sound is magnified by the headers of even the stock cam.... its the typewriter effect on overtime, reflects off anything....And well can tell you if there is something wrong with the typewriter and its little round tipped hydraulic lifters.

Thanks for the info guys! I replaced the header gaskets with OEM gaskets and its still noisy. I think you are right Christian. The valvetrain sounds fine, the tick is louder underneath the car. Would you mind sending me a vid of yours Christianchevell?

Check and see if there are any leaks by having a friend block your tailpipe with a rag while you look for the leak. If no leak is found ignore the tic sound and turn up the radio.

Mine seems louder after it warms up would that indicate an exhaust leak? It seems to co.e from underneath the car.

Most ticking is normal after installing headers. They don't call these engines sewing machines for nothing.

Install Titamium valve spring retainers, to cancel out the sewing machine ticking sounds, with even more valve-train ticking sounds.

Funny little vid does not show much lifter noise, as I recall my Wife was Harassing me about making a video and I couldn't stop laughing so I Just went with it and yes she was giving me crap in piggy slippers I had to stop like twice and redo it, it cracked me up so bad. I once made a video of my last engine before this one also...LOL Nice video of my finger.....
