Sorry link did not work. Here's the article. There are some inacurate things in it but a good read anyway. Enjoy.
CHEVROLET CAMARO: Its return is set after an absence of seven years TIME MACHINES: Pony car wars resume Glen Woodcock Sun Media February 6, 2009 Once eliminated from an automaker's roster, it's not often that a nameplate makes a comeback. Glen Woodcock There are, of course, exceptions. I can think of Chevrolet Malibu, which disappeared in 1983 before returning in 1997, and more recently, Dodge Charger and Challenger. And in a few more months, after an absence of seven years, you'll again be able to buy a Chevrolet Camaro. The Camaro was introduced on Sept. 29, 1966, as a 1967 model. Along with its sister, the Pontiac Firebird, it was General Motors' answer to Ford's wildly popular Mustang. Though Chrysler got its Plymouth Barracuda to market first, in 1964, it wasn't until Camaro and Firebird debuted that the pony car wars were on in earnest. Four generations of Camaros were built before production ended in 2002. From 1992, those fourth-generation Camaros were assembled in Canada, at the now-demolished GM plant in Ste. Therese, Que. 2010 Camaros will be built exclusively by GM Canada in Oshawa. After several delays, pre-production cars have been seen on the roads around Oshawa for the last few months and actual production, originally slated for this month, is now slated to begin in mid-March, with cars reaching dealers in April and May. The original '67 Camaro was offered in two series. Standard powerplant in the 123 Series was a 230 cu. in. inline-six developing 140 hp at 4,400 r.p.m. Base engine in the 124 Series was Chevy's 327 cu. in. V-8 producing 210 hp at 4,600 r.p.m. A 295 hp, 350 cu. in. V-8 was an option. Base transmission was a three-speed manual; four-speed sticks and automatics were available. The base coupe cost US$2,572, the base convertible, $2,809. The new car met with instant success and Chevy sold 220,900 of them that first year. Unlike the '67 version, the 2010 Camaro will be offered as a coupe only in three trim levels, LS, LT and SS. As in 1967, the base LS and LT versions are powered by a six-cylinder engine, a 3.6-litre (217 cu. in.) V-6 capable of 300 hp. The SS gets a 6.2L (376 cu. in.) V-8 producing 422 hp. Transmission is a six-speed manual or automatic. In 1967, one of the hot appearance options was the Rally Sport, or RS, subseries which included concealed headlights, mag wheels, whitewall tires, vinyl roof and special stripes and badges. For 2010, the RS appearance package returns as an option (minus the vinyl roof) on both the LT and SS models. There's one other thing that the '67 and '10 Camaros have in common: how long it took to get them to market. It was 2 1/2 years from concept to reality for the original car, a little longer for the new model, which was introduced at the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Prices are a little higher now than they were in 1967, too. In Canada, Camaro LS starts at $26,995, the 1LT at $27,995, the 2LT at $31,595 and the 1SS at $40,995. As stated, there are a couple of errors and omissions in the article: 1) The SS is now rated at 426 HP, not 422 HP 2) The article suggests that only 3 engines were available when the car was introduced. This was not the case. A second inline 6 cyl. engine was available - a 250 CID engine with 155 HP and the 327 CID motor was also available with a 4 bbl. carb that was rated at 275 HP and required premium fuel. The 210 HP version of the 327 had a 2 bbl. carb. and ran on regular. 3) There was no 4 speed automatic transmission available at intro as Glen states. A 2 speed Powerglide and a 3 speed Turbo Hydramatic were available, depending on engine choices. A 4 speed auto was not available in the Camaro until 1983. Glen has not responded and no references were made to the above in his article that appears in the Toronto Sun today. Best regardSS, Elie

Good news!
... but this article is from the London (Ontario) Free Press... which is a member of the Sun Media Corp (hence, publication last week in the Toronto Sun). Parent company is Quebecor Media, which is the largest newspaper publisher in Canada. http://www.sunmedia.ca/SunMedia/ Best regardSS, Elie
