I went ahead and got the JL Audio HD900/5 since I got a great deal on a new one. Now Im trying to find a sub to add to it and local audio store has JBL subs on sale. I want to get the W10GTi MkII but it is a 6ohm sub. According to the jl audio site (http://www.jlaudio.com/hd900-5-car-a...plifiers-98223) the amp is not able to go to 6ohm. Is this correct and I should look for a different sub or will it work? All of the other JBL Subs are 300-350 watt rms. Since the amp is set up for 500 watts rms I was trying to stay around 500-600 watts rms for the sub.

Im not entirely sold on JBL. I can go with another sub but this is what they were trying to sell me since its what they had in stock and on sale. The GTi was $299. Trying not to go over $150 for a sub though

I'm not an expert in the matter but from my experience, if you connect the voice coils together (positive to positive and negative to negative) this will take the sub to 3 ohms. The sub channel on the amp is 500w RMS x 1 at 3 ohms. So you can either run 4 sets of wires from the amp's sub channel (2 positive and 2 negative) bridged to both voice coils, or run 1 positive and 1 negative from your amp's sub channel to one voice coil, and then connect the positive from that voice coil to the positive of the other voice coil and then the same with the negative.

Overall this would give you 500 watts at 3 ohm's resistance to your sub.

Someone else on here may be able to point you in the direction of a better sub, but the one you listed should work just fine with that amp if you wire it up correctly.

So according to that manual jeepguy posted, they come already connected for a 3 ohm setup. All you would have to do is run the +/- of the sub to the corresponding +/- of the amp.
