True solid trans mount?

I have the BMR solid aluminum motor mounts. Prothane offers a "solid" trans mount with a urethane piece. Has anyone fabbed up a metal insert and went with a true solid trans mount? I have not seen one yet and am just throwing the idea out there.

I've always heard you shouldn't run a solid motor and trans mount. You need some give, or you could break something.

Most definitely agreed with that. I just want to see if anyone has been bold enough to do a metal insert in the tranny mount. I am wondering if I may have to remove the knock sensors too, I asked GPI and am waiting on that response.

Thank you. I have heard you definitely want a stiff tranny mount if you run solids on motor mounts because you will risk cracking the bellhousing but just looking for input and ideas. I just want to see if anyone has been bold enough to do a metal insert in the tranny mount. I am wondering if I may have to remove the knock sensors too, I asked GPI and am waiting on that response.

If you're not pushing hard into the four digit horsepower, not thinking you're in any need of solid motor or transmission mounts. The polys they have out there work real good and "solidify" the drivetrain well (minimize power loss). Even the polys increase your NVH so I couldn't imagine how more would be tolerable.

I feel that every mod has value and that everything adds up. I am one of those that have no regard for comfort in the ride. The timeslip is everything. I will definitely be doing a before and after video for the guys here and a review of the comparison between stockers and true solids.

I'm with you, comfort for me is exhaust so loud you can't hear the radio and NVH so intense you can't see clearly in the mirrors

My car shakes so much that my dash cam is practically useless along with the mirrors. Especially when the cam is chopping. I imagine people see me in it and wonder if I'm miserable because my car is running so poor lol.

lol, when I'm running around with my QTP's open it's a real symphony strolling along! When you stop at a light and the car is just shaking all over the place, mirror vibrating sooo badly you can't see out of it and you can't hear the people right next to you asking about your car, loud and proud!! Then you take off and it's like sitting in a Huey UH1D Gunship with all the vibrations and loud sounds.. Gotta love it!! Music to my ears for sure.

I will be revisiting this thread when I get the mounts installed. I am going to call Prothane tomorrow and see if a metal insert would be able to be dropped into the tranny mount. I never hear about anyone doing this so I am wanting to at least raise the question. I really don't expect it to have much value in terms of any sort of gains, but I just want to know, and be able to report the data

I just got off the phone with Prothane, and apparently its just a matter of separating the 2 metal pieces (top and bottom) that are sandwiching the polyurethane piece, replacing that insert with the aluminum piece, and throwing it back together and re-locktiting the bolts. The bolts have some lock tight so I might have to put it in the vice since its such a small piece then have a metal insert fabbed up. The tech guy said it would be very harsh, and I asked his personal opinion on the difference between the urethane and a solid aluminum trans mount with respect to NVH, and he said it would be significant. But we all know that what is intolerable to one may be fine for another so I guess we will see what we will see. The juice is probably not worth the squeeze but still, I am only asking.

Just got off the phone with Zach at GPI and he's going to ask the rest of the crew if they can fab an insert, since James said they have washers they use in solid motor mount applications to maintain the stock engine height when using the BMR mounts, and opinions as to the use of this mod, waiting on a call-back.

Tried to get ahold of James Zajac as I have worked with him the most, but James is working from home and has Covid right now. Best wishes James!
