MY ZL1 SCARED THE S##T OUT OF ME TODAY
I really want to give out a word of caution about these ZL1's. First let me tell you I have on a set of the michelin pilot tires on the rear and I went one size bigger than the factory tires. I was driving over to the chevy store where I bought my car today and I had the cruise set at 69 mph. I came up on a older red mustang and had to slow down to about 64mph because of oncoming traffic. When it was clear I pulled out in the passing lane and there was not another car in sight so I thought why not let it out for aways because it was clear as far as I could see so I floored the car. All I remember is the car downshifted twice and it instantly put up the traction control signs on and the rear of the car started off to my left! I let out of it right then and it straightened up. I have never had a car do that. Now the hiway was blacktop and it had been chipped some time ago and was not "slick" so I am wondering, could these tires have caused that or what? The goodyears that came on the car I believe would not have done this I think. Has anybody else had this happen to them?

Yep, shifting hard into 3rd somewhere between 50-60mph on an on ramp. Wakes you and everyone around you up real quick! She does straighten out right away though.

I chirped the tires once going into forth at 104 mph, on the stock tires.

I think many of us here have experienced it especially as Whos_Drivin said "on the on ramp"! And yes the Goodyears do it too!

.....yup, it can get a bit squirelly,... but... the ZL1 is nothing like the 4th Gen 35th Anniversary SS Camaro's with stick shift. Standing on it under certain conditions would cause one to change lanes and get all bent out of shape due to lack of structural underpinnings. The ZL1 teases you....but stays with you. As long as one does not over drive it beyond it's nannies, or reason of physics.

I used to think that when you had stabilitrak and traction control fully enabled no amount of throttle input could get you in trouble because they would intervene and stop the wheel spin almost immediately, this car changed that train of thought you have to respect the car and know that not even the nannies can save you in every situation

Turn the nannies off and learn how to drive the car without spinning it out. The throttle works in both directions. Learn to modulate the throttle so you don't lose control in any situation. Sneak up on the limit of the car in any conditions with your seat time. Practice. Drive in varing conditions with the nannies off including wet conditions to accustom yourself to driving carefully without relying on computers to save you.
A fast car is not something you buy and smash the peddle to the floor and expect the computers to save you. Learn the car.
