Maybe secondary to this problem? http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=396830

That sucks man.

I just started getting the "service power steering soon" message about every 5th time I start the car, thankfully never while driving. Time to take it in...before it gets serious...

Interesting. This was a problem that prompted the very first recall at the start of production in '09. I think that might have been a chafing issue in the tunnel somewhere.

Yes, I would highly recommend it to all once you see that message" Service power steering" take it to dealer, for me I never saw message and mine just failed while driving. Also while it was at dealer no codes were stored in computer that's what the service advisor told me.

Hello CodemanZL1,

We understand how upsetting the power steering light on your Camaro might be and are glad to know you are planning on bringing it to the dealership. If you would like, we are happy to provide an additional layer of support while your vehicle is being diagnosed.

If this interests you, please send us a private message with your VIN, mileage, full contact information and preferred dealership.

Best,

Steph B

This is the first 2014 I've seen with this issue, I was kind of hoping it would avoid us....

What is the production date for your car?

Is this a common problem or was it rectified? I have a '15 ZL1 and am curious if I should anticipate having this same problem?

Early...Aug 13 if I'm remembering correctly

Oddly enough, it seems more frequently to happen after I've been in PTM5 (maybe the others as well) and parked at that setting.
I was playing around with a few different PTM modes last week (like how the steering feels in 5) and that's when this all started and saw the message almost daily. I've stayed in just "regular" Sport mode the last 3 days and haven't seen it come up since.

Checked the ground wires this weekend and the connections seemed fine.
No DTCs have been thrown at any point.

Taking it to the dealer Thursday afternoon to be safe.
I'm a little skeptical but hopefully will get some resolution.

Hi nvydvr,

GM works diligently to provide a high quality product that we hope will exceed your expectations. However, when dealing with a mechanical part, there is always a chance that something may fail. As we are not trained technicians, this is something that we are not able to speculate on. I do apologize that I am unable to provide further information. If you have any additional questions, or would like to visit your dealership for a service visit, please don't hesitate to send us a private message.

Kindly,

Julie C

This is a common problem and still exists. And it's gone on WAY TOO LONG. I'm surprised someone hasn't been killed over this one. Other than ADM Performance looking into it I have seen nothing else.

Just last week we had a 2013 ZL1 power steering go out here. Then it starts working again with no apparent fix. I just let mine sit for 2 hours and went back out and it worked and it wasn't like it was hot or anything (had been sitting in the garage). Not a great feeling, when you don't really know if it's fixed or not and a dealership won't tell you anything either.

Seems our key fobs are more dangerous than Power Steering Failures.. /rant

Yeah this is a real safety concern, I'm not taking mine to the track untill I know its fixed. Mine has been in storage for the past 4 or 5 months hence no updates with the power steering failure notice coming on. I will be taking the ZL1 maybe on Easter Sunday for a spin. The power steering on mine tends to go out on the really hot days, and this car has been to the dealership for a fix like 3 times already. I hate to be going on a winding track at 100 and the steering goes out

Update:
I picked the car up from the dealer on Thrusday 24 march ( the positive battery lead from the rear of car to front was replaced) and all was fine. Then on Sunday night the power steering went out again. I have taken the car back to the dealer on Monday. Waiting to see what they find. Right now I'm having some mixed feelings about the car. It has happened to me twice now while driving at highway speeds, I just hope strike three does not take me out or anyone else.
