Bath time! But how?
I (like everyone) love to keep my car nice and shinny but seeing as its black its almost impossible to keep that done. Which got me thinking what do you guys do more take it to a car wash or wash it by hand? And which one ends up looking better?

By hand. I have a black SS and don't trust anyone with her. I wash and spray wax her once a week and wax and polish about once a month.

My buddy has a black Kia Optima and he got the California Duster... He uses his 2 times a day and then takes it to one of the better car washes in the area...He said I should get one (california duster that is).... one of the better purchases for my car... 20 bucks and I use it in the morning and if its windy I'll use it in the afternoon because of all the pollen and dust. and then every few days I will give it a good spray detail using meguiars quick detailer spray... I haven't washed my car in a week and it still looks like i just washed it!
if you do take this advice... just make sure you shake out the duster after every "swipe" for lack of a better word...it only takes about 5-10 minutes max! |

Me too! I bought a 99 Black Grand Prix.
I called it a 20 footer, because from 20 feet it LOOKED clean! I will never buy Black again. You can see from my sig that I totally flipped!

Go to the detailing/washing section on this forum, read up and wash that Camaro by hand, you will see better results and feel much better of what you have accomplished! |

even when you see someone else's black car slightly dusty or full of swirlies, you glance over and just think of all the work its going to take to correct it. So, since you have a black car, do yourself a favor... don't wash it much until you look up all the recommendations you can and get yourself some decent tools to get started (a couple of buckets, a whole bunch of microfiber towels, and a few other knick knacks..you don't have to spend hundreds on this or get the latest super-synthetic-polymolecular-organic-themrodynamic hydrophobic pre wax spray which costs a meager $35 per 12 oz...just find the basics that work for you, ohh... and stay away from the automatic car wash...

I wipe my car off every morning with a damp microfiber cloth then go over it with a dry cloth (weather permitting). I also use the dusting brush for excessive pollen. If it's a rainy day or I know it will be, I leave it as is, unless there is a lot of pollen on it. If it is still dry out I will dust it off before it rains. If it is too far gone, on a good day, I'll take it to the corner car wash (touchless). Then I use a microfiber towel to go over any water spots. If I think we will get a run of 3 or 4 nice days, I put a coat of Liquid Glass on her. She has seven coats on her now. I've had the car since early April.

The trouble with black is you just have to stay on it-all of the time-it is hard I know I had a BLACK gmc AND Ablack camaro 83 model-and I had them standing tall all the time'It's a lot of work but worth it in the end.

Living in AZ, I too - wash my car every week. The static electricity in the air and the dust here sucks major butt. I don't dare use my cali duster on her..Thank God for foam guns.
