Removing interior trim paint

So I am freaking out. My interior is all ripped out to get painted, but the shop that I had paint it I found kinda sucks and Im worried about how long the paint will actually last and if it will even look good.

So as a back up plan is there anyway to remove the paint without damaging the trim? Or am I just screwed if it turns out like crap? Also what does painted interior do to the value of the car at resale? I went with gold and red on a black car and it was supposed to have matching exterior vinyl stripes but this shop ruined the stripe kit that I had bought.

They first sprayed the pieces with kilz, then the color, then a clear enamel. They didn't sand the pieces just cleaned them. So if I need to stripe them back to the original look can I?

Pics? I painted mine with regular spray paint from Lowes, I've only gotten compliments on the way it looks, but there is some pealing that occurs. Maybe theres some sealant that you can put on it?

I will have pics tomorrow. All the interior is still at the shop? How did you paint it? Did you put enamel over top and kill first? Can you post some pics?

They used duplicolor paint for it and then put rustoleum clear enamel on top

I didn't use enamel or anything protective and I regret it now, but at the time I wasn't thinking. It took like 30 minutes to remove the panel, and like 2 days to get the spray paint pattern right and drying. I did a door a day. Basically u have to start spraying away from the panel and do a sweep past the panel. This way it avoids paint hot spots at the edges. In the end, it turned out so great that people think my car came with the red panels.

I just did one color though, and it matches the outside color. I'm not by my car right now, but I'll post pics as soon as I am.

Okay sounds good. They started the painting yesterday and I got to see some of the pieces and they looked decent so far. Hopefully they turn out good.

Originally it was supposed to match an exterior red and gold stripe but the ripped the stripe during the installation so now it won't so I have to go another route to get some gold and red in the exterior to match the black gold and red interior. I should have it assembled tomorrow and I will post some pictures. I just hope it isn't a crap job that I have to replace all the trim

Looks pretty good though. How did you get that basketball like texture? Mine was very smooth

That's the texture that came with the panels. I also wanted it to be smooth, but I didn't know how to make it smooth without getting a different panel.

Also to answer one of the questions in ur first post, the paint comes off with gasoline, which I had to do twice. Nothing happened to the panel tho

Forgot to include on my previous post, the panel was off the car when I used the gasoline.

Really? Thats interesting I wouldn't have guessed gasoline. How did you use that? Just soak a rag? Did it work even after being painted awhile? No damage to the original paint that was on the trim?

I've used lacquer thinner to remove paint when I've screwed up. I just continually soak a rag and rub until the paint is removed. I've used it on both plastic and metal pieces without any damage to the underlying part.

Just like gasoline, lacquer thinner is highly flammable. You'll also want to get a good aerator mask and use it in a well ventilated area because the fumes are highly noxious.

So I just called the shop and they told me that the paint is peeling really bad and that they're going to try and repaint it. I asked them if they could just strip it back to original and they said that it won't look right.

What should I tell them to do? Strip it or repaint it?

Why not use a fabric covering? Faux suede microfiber or something?
