Importing Camaro 2010 SS to England

Hello gents,

I am going to be relocating to England from the US in either late 2019 or early 2020 and had planned on bringing my beloved 2010 SS Camaro with me. I had recently heard that there are bans on Camaro's being sold in the UK due to emissions. Before I go into panic mode, I have some questions hopefully you could help with!

1) Would I still able to import my used Camaro at that time despite there being restrictions on the model?

2) Will the new regulations have any impact on being able to pass the MOT?

3) Will insurance prices be effected by the new regulations?

Thanks in advance!
Matt

Hey there Matt, don't panic. Book your shipping buddy. Car will need some alterations to lights and an inspection; that's all. Bring two - we need more Camarii in the UK...
Cheers, Ed.

The so called ban only applies to Euro/UK spec Camaro's and Corvettes which are currently sold here by a single dealership. They are playing on the new regulations by advertising 'Last of the V8's' 'Buy now before they are banned' which is only true for the models they sell.

Anyone can still import themselves or via a specialist.
Imported models get cheaper road tax
A few light mods are needed on imports for the IVA test which certify it for UK use.

Thanks for the responses! that has certainly put my mind at ease.

A few more questions:

1) I am considering using ShipMyCar to complete the importation, is this a recommended company? They have been professional thus far, just want some personal opinions from forum members.

2) The camaro currently runs a decat. While I believe I will need some form of Cat to pass the MOT, does the Cat have to be OEM or are aftermarket high flow cats permitted? Will high flow cats pass the emissions test and if so, what are some recommendations on brands? How do you find out the exact emissions numbers required for the MOT so I can be sure from the workshop that my car is hitting those numbers before I ship.

Thanks guys, so happy I found these forums!

Hello again Matt- there's a lot of info and gen on here (especially in the US section) The UK Camaro5 scene is thriving and very active but most activity takes place on Facebook inevitably. One of our admins is John D M - he'll hook you up with all the groups we use.
I run hi-flow cats, as do a number of others; won't be a problem.

Shipmycar are quite expensive, and their light conversions are not at all robust, have heard of many failures after quite a short period. We can recommend several other people who will do a much better job.
Are you on Facebook? Many of us communicate on there Or can get you details and post here?

Your biggest problem is the light conversion, it needs to be done by somebody who knows exactly what they are doing.

I bought my headers and Hi Flo cats from a guy whose car would not pass IVA and had to revert to stock. So not always a sure thing. MOT's afterwards probably more chance.

I still got my old factory cats and pipes in the man-cave if needed for someone's IVA. Free to a good cause!
