Is this quote for a complete stereo system reasonable?
I own a 2014 Camaro 2SS RS with the factory Boston Acoustics system.
I want to keep my factory head unit and replace the speakers and add subwoofers. I contacted a local installer who specializes in JL Audio installations. I got a quote on the following system. Audiocontrol LCQ-1 JL Audio C3 6.5 components for the front JL Audio C2 6x9 coaxial speakers for the rear JL Audio 13W1V2 (single subwoofer in a sealed drivers side enclosure) JL Audio 500/5 Amplifier attached to the back of the rear seat All connections, Hushmat sound dampening for the doors and trunk and a subwoofer knob included in the install Quoted price $3545 plus tax. I want to get opinions on this quote. Is it fair or way too expensive? To be clear the installer does top notch work and has had several vehicles published in magazines or online websites. The amplifier and subwoofer are discontinued models the installer has on clearance at his shop. So opinions? Thanks |

Most of that will be labor. You can google the hardware and get an idea of parts cost. You could save a lot of money doing it yourself, but if you don't have the skills I completely understand taking it somewhere. And it's nice to have a warranty.

I have an audiocontrol dlq8 in mine... I was initially going to go with the lc7. Personally if I had it to do over again I would scrap the audiocontrol altogether & use ********s (FARK) kit. Its plug n play prewired to the existing BA amp located in trunk. You can then remove that junk and store it for trade in should you ever cross that road. Many replace it with a JL xd400.4 (as it will fit there perfectly). You can then run a separate sub amp. I prefer to run two amps anyways instead of all in one applications. I run a slash 300/4 & hd 750.1. Pics are in my profile page. I had all the equipment from a prior vehicle... and did sound dampening in trunk myself (just time not hard at all). Installer wired, mounted, built custom sealed enclosure, put front components & rear decks in dynamat'd doors, rear deck, inside panels, etc for 1,400ish

Also, buy your sound dampening material online... you'll save a ton of money there too!

Thanks for the feedback. I want to try and do the install myself I am just concerned with getting in over my head. I'm quite certain this would end up taking me longer than I think.

Pricey. I am sure most of it is labor.
I'd say half is labor. Eh... Maybe $1,750 in material costs.

I bet a lot of that money is going towards the Hushmat and you can get it a lot cheaper on your own.
Also, I would rather have C5's in the front and nothing in the back over C3's and C2's. In my opinion, it's going to sound better if you do this and you'd be saving a bit of money as well. Honestly you're never going to hear the rears unless someone is sitting in the backseat. In our cars, that isn't very often. You aren't going to hear those C2's and you could use that extra saved money towards C5's in the front which are going to sound better. Just my opinion though.

I have c3-650's and the rear and you can hear them. When I fade just to the front I do not get the sound that I like. Hard rock, heavy metal sounds better to me with 4 speakers and the woofer.
Just my opinion. The 500/5 amp seems a bit light. What model is it? |

That sounds a bit high to me 3500 and you only get a w1. Should a lest get a w3 sub. And I don't think that they make a 500/5 they make a 500/3 5 ch are the 700/5 and the 1000/5 witch that what they might do is run the front speakers off the amp and run the sub of the amp. And use radio power for the rear speakers. Also for that kind of money they should be build you a custom box for the woofer
